Fact: Rocker Patti Smith paid tribute to Joan Baez at a ceremony in Berlin, Germany last week (21May15) as the folk icon was presented with the 2015 Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award. Artist Ai Weiwei was also feted with the same top prize from the human rights organisation, in recognition of their leadership in the fight for human rights.

Fact: Joan Baez and Passenger will headline this summer's (15) Cambridge Folk Festival in England. Folk singer Peggy Seeger, who appeared at the first festival in 1965, is also on the bill, alongside cancer survivor Wilko Johnson and Joan Armatrading.

Fact: Singer Joan Baez showed her support for the Occupy Wall Street movement by serenading hundreds of gatherers at a New York City rally on Friday (11Nov11). Performing her hit song Where's My Apple Pie, Baez changed the lyrics to It's Time To Occupy. Fellow folk icons David Crosby and Graham Nash also performed for the demonstrators last week.
