Joan Rivers’ daughter has marked the first Thanksgiving she’s spending without her by reactivating her mother’s social media accounts and sharing an old family photograph.

On Thursday, Melissa Rivers posted a message from Joan’s Twitter account, which was the first time the profile had been used since late August. She shared a touching, sepia-tinted photograph of her younger self sitting next to her mother, holding hands and laughing, while sitting at a table in formal wear.

Along with the photograph, Melissa wrote “I finally figured out my mom’s password. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Xo Melissa”.

While her mother may be gone, Melissa is determined to carry on Joan’s tradition of throwing lavish Thanksgiving parties. Her Thanksgiving dinners were the stuff of legend in celebrity circles – described as “epic” by the Wall Street Journal – and were held at her lavish Upper East Side apartment in New York, which Joan once described as “where Marie Antoinette would have lived if she’d had the money.”

The parties were described in the reality show Joan starred in alongside her daughter. Melissa will be honouring her mother’s memory by inviting family and friends to the apartment, but Joan’s spokeswoman Judy Katz has not disclosed any other details about her plans.

Joan Rivers passed away at the age of 81 on September 4th this year. After the Thanksgiving feast, Melissa is expected to continue with the case against those responsible for her mother’s death. The Yorkville Endoscopy clinic in New York is allegedly responsible for a series of medical blunders that resulted in the iconic comedienne slipping into a coma from which she never came out.
