Joanne Froggatt

Joanne Froggatt, who played housemaid Anna Bates in hit TV show Downton Abbey, has two films coming out this Autumn, both true stories. She has the lead role in Starfish, about a woman coping with her husband's disfiguring surgery after contracting sepsis. And in next month's A Street Cat Named Bob, she plays a social worker helping a junkie make a fresh start.

Since Downton Abbey ended last year following six successful seasons, Froggatt has begun work on a number of different film and television projects. Like her Downton co-star Laura Carmichael who stars in two films this year, 'Burn Burn Burn' and 'A United Kingdom', Froggatt also has a double movie release.

‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Wolf Hall’ have led the British nominations at this year's Emmy Awards, with both dramas picking up three nods each. While HBO series ‘Game Of Thrones’ might have dominated this year’s nominations with 24 nods, British stars have also flourished with actors Joanne Froggatt, Emma Thompson and Ricky Gervais among the nominees.

ITV drama ‘Downton Abbey’ received three nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama for Jim Carter and Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama for Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates. Froggatt was nominated in the same category last year, but lost out to ‘Breaking Bad’s’ Anna Gunn.

Downton Abbey will conclude after its sixth season, the ITV show's producers have confirmed. Producer Gareth Neame made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday (26th March). "It's a very emotional day for all of the people involved in the show," Neame said at the press conference.

Series 4 may have been the most controversial and criticised in the show’s back catalogue, but Downton Abbey’s strong viewing figures secured the period drama’s 5th season.

Julian Fellowes will write another series of Downton.

The new series will air next year, with popular writer Julian Fellowes returning to once again pen his highly-watched drama. An average of 11.8 million tuned in to watch the current series, which reached its climax on Sunday (Nov 10).

Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom received "a number of complaints" after Sunday's episode of historical period drama Downton Abbey offended many of its viewers with a brutal rape scene.

The scene that shocked viewers into filing an Ofcom complaint, complaining to ITV or airing their horror via Twitter, involved Joanne Froggatt's character Anna May Bates. Anna rejects the advances of valet Mr. Green (Nigel Harman) and is then struck and then dragged into another room to be attacked whilst her family and Downton's guests enjoy and opera performance upstairs. A bloodied and bruised Anna is then shown crying as she tries to come to terms with the events.

Downton Abbey has shocked and offended many of its viewers after its latest aired episode depicted a rape scene, involving the young character Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt). The controversial television scenes have provoked many viewers to make a complaint, reports BBC News.

Downton Abbey Hit With Complaints From Outraged Viewers.

Ofcom have not specified the exact number of complaints they received but have admitted that "a number of complaints" were made after British viewers were upset by the scenes. ITV apparently received 70 complaints pertaining to the on-screen incident. Additionally, viewers also took to Twitter to voice their disgust at the brutal attack with one Lucy Raine tweeting "I am genuinely so distressed at what just happened on Downton Abbey I feel sick."
