Joe Jackson has suffered a stroke.

The 87-year-old star - who formed The Jackson 5 with his children including the late Michael Jackson - was celebrating his birthday in Brazil on Sunday (26.07.15) when he reported feeling dizzy and losing his vision, leading to him being taken to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

The showbiz patriarch has remained in the hospital since the incident while his family decide whether to fly him back to the US, with reports suggesting he has lost his sight, according to gossip website TMZ.

It's not the first time the music manager has suffered a stroke, having had a mild stroke in November 2012 when he was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas after complaining of pains in his head.

Earlier in the day, his 49-year-old daughter Janet had taken to social media to wish her father a happy birthday.

She wrote on Twitter: ''Wishing my Father, @Joe5Jackson a Happy Birthday.

''I want to tell the world, I love and honor you. (sic)''

Controversy has surrounded Joe for his notoriously tough parenting, which his children said was ''abusive'', but he has insisted he ''treated everybody right''.

He previously said: ''I'm glad I was tough, because look what I came out with. I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world. And they treated everybody right.

''There's no such thing as beating a kid. You whip them or punish them over something they did and they will remember that.''
