A documentary charting Joe Strummer's escape to Spain as The Clash began to disintegrate will premiere in London in March (15).

The film, titled I Need A Dodge, explores the British rocker's time in Granada in the mid-1980s after he fled Britain to avoid the fallout of Mick Jones' sacking from the band.

Director Nick Hall was inspired to make the film after reading how Strummer lost his Dodge car when he left it in a Madrid street prior to a return trip to London and forgot where he had parked it after getting back to Spain.

Hall tells Mojo magazine, "It's not like a conventional documentary. It's a sideways look at the break-up of The Clash and how Spain played such an important part in Joe's story. It's an interesting way of capturing a sense of who he was."

Strummer died from a heart defect in 2002, aged 50.

I Need A Dodge is due to premiere at London's Koko venue on 25 March (15).
