Joel McHale will be hosting the White House Correspondents' Dinner in May.

The dinner is due to be held on May 3rd and will be celebrating its 100th year in 2014. McHale will join the likes of Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers who have also performed at the event. The event is traditionally attended by the President, the First Lady and the Vice President.

In a statement released yesterday, the WHCA President said "We're thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial. He's sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media.  Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing."

Joel McHale joked about his wife's attendance at the annual dinner.

The comedian host usually performs a roast of the president and his administration, and it looks as though McHale has already begun practising via Twitter. Upon receiving the good news, McHale wrote "This is very cool." He continued by promising "My material will be equally offensive to all & over within 30 min - just like a Congressional work year."

McHale did offer some lighter remarks and even joked about his wife's attendance. He tweeted "I hope my wife clears the Secret Service background check. I don't want to embarrass her, but she has A LOT of priors."
