The 36 year old gained 25lbs in muscle through extensive training to portray a U.S. Navy SEAL soldier in Transformers director Michael Bay's hard-hitting political thriller, and John's physical transformation has only amplified the delight he and his actress wife share with each other during their private time between the sheets.

"Absolutely," he declares to America's Elle magazine when asked if his sex life has changed due to his newfound beefiness. "And again, totally selfishly, it is so much better for me being jacked because you feel so much more confident and you see yourself as this much more sexual person, which is really fun."

Although he is delighted to be exploring new levels of intimacy with his spouse of six years, John insists she doesn't care if he's fit or not.

"The truth is, she really is that person who would like me any way," he smiles, before adding: "But I don't think she's going to kick the eight-pack abs out of bed."

John and Emily are parents to daughters Hazel, two, and Violet, three months, and his children are giving him even more incentive to stay in shape.

“Hazel is the perfect example - (even) in the last two years, it’s harder and harder to pick her up,” he reveals to People magazine.

“I don’t want to pick up my kids and throw my back out,” he continues. “It’s nice to stay in shape because it allows me to keep up with them.”
