If I tried selling watercolor paintings that I made when I was eleven years old, do you think anyone would buy them? No? What about some random drawings and poems that I did? Okay. Fine. Erm...how about one of my decaying molars? Yeah, I guess I wouldn’t either. But I’m also not John Lennon (and I also don’t have decaying molars). Believe it or not, there’s people out there who shell out a crazy amount of cash to buy those John Lennon things listed. It’s not that hard to believe considering how massive Lennon is to our culture, but do people really need his teeth!? That’s just weird. But it ended up selling for over $31,000.

At a recent auction, some of the latest Lennon memorabilia sold consisted of original doodles, short stories, and poems that were taken from two books he wrote in the 1960’s. The most expensive was for a nine page parody of Sherlock Holmes that went for $209,000, but it doesn’t even come close to the most expensive Beatles related item that exists. In 2009, an art exhibit in the UK named an $11 million dollar price tag for a photo of the group in butcher’s jackets surrounded by baby dolls. $11 million for something that sounds kind of nightmare inducing? No thanks. No matter how ridiculous it seems to spend so much money on something like this, it doesn’t change the fact that it happens all the time, and not just for the Beatles.

KISS costumes

Someone, somewhere, for some reason, paid over $200,000 in 2002 to obtain possession of the wacky costumes that the rock band KISS were so accustomed to wearing. After 30+ years of playing over thousands of shows, we can only hope that those costumes were washed first.

Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ lyrics

Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ is regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time, and the original lyrics penned by The Boss sold for $197,000 late last year. Do artists these days even handwrite lyrics anymore? I would probably pay for lyrics that Taylor Swift typed up on her iPhone.

The Clash’s original London Calling artwork

So, this one is actually kind of cool. Granted, it would still probably be on the bottom of my list of things to buy if I had the money, but The Clash’s iconic album London Calling’s equally as iconic artwork sold in 2009 for a reported $119,000.

Jimi Hendrix’s guitar

At some point in the 90’s, Jimi Hendrix’s Fender Stratocaster was auctioned off at $330,000, which means that price would be a million times higher if it were sold today instead. I’m thoroughly convinced that holding the guitar tight enough might just give you a drop of Jimi’s guitar skills.

Elvis Presley’s car

Elvis Presley owned a car back in the day called the Rolls-Royce Phantom V. Just the name alone sounds awesome. Only 516 were made, and Presley owned one of them along with Queen Elizabeth II. But that 1963 car eventually went to somebody else. In 1986, the vehicle was sold for $182,000.
