John Stamos pushed for the sacking of the Olsen twins from Full House, the 51-year-old actor admitted at a press conference on Thursday (6th August). Stamos’ attempt at having Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired came to light when the preview of The Unauthorized Full House Story was published online earlier this week. The Lifetime movie is a dramatization of what allegedly went on behind the scenes during filming of the sitcom between 1987 and 1995.

In Lifetime’s The Unauthorized Full House Story, Stamos (played by Justin Gaston) is seen losing his temper when filming of a scene is halted after one of the Olsen twins messes her nappy. Stamos reportedly pushed for their sacking but, after bringing in stand-ins, it just didn’t work and they soon returned.

“It’s sort of true that the Olsen twins cried a lot,” Stamos said at the press tour, as EW reports. “It was very difficult to get the shot. So I [said], ‘Get them out…!’ That is actually 100 percent accurate. They brought in a couple of unattractive redheaded kids. We tried that for a while and that didn’t work. [Producers] were like, all right, get the Olsen twins back. And that’s the story.”

The cast of Full House, with the exception of the Olsen twins, will be returning to our screens for the sequel to the hit sitcom, Fuller House. Stamos will be reprising his role as Uncle Jesse and has a producer credit. Filming for the first two episodes of the series has already begun and it will be available on Netflix next year.

Stamos was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, as part of the promotional tour for his upcoming Fox comedy, Grandfathered.
