It's not typical record company procedure, but this is Stiff Records, "where the fun never sets," - apparently.

The label sent out a hilarious press release this week, announcing the first sales figures for Johnny Borrell's - of Razorlight fame - first solo album, Borrell 1. It's actually the first new album that Stiff Records have put out since 2007 - and it sold just 594 copies. Given the Beatles reference in the title, it's probably not too serious.

But anyway, to put that into perspective, that's just less than The Voice winner Leanne Mitchell managed to shift.

Anyway, a Stiff Records spokesman made light of the situation, saying, "Stiff Records is proud to announce first week sales figures for its latest album - Johnny Borrell's 'Borrell 1' - of 594,

"So far we've achieved 0.00015% sales of Adele's '21' - and 0.03% sales of this week's No. 1 album from Jahmene Douglas - so we feel like it's all to play for as we move into the all-important week two.

The tongue-in-cheek press release concluded, "We might even break the Top 100."

Strangely, the album actually received strong reviews last week.

"Against the odds, this is a ludicrously enjoyable record," said Q Magazine, with Mojo writing, "As ever with Borrell, it's never less than weirdly, grippingly fascinating."

We suspect Borrell isn't really too concerned about the album sales. He's still getting royalty cheques through for Razorlight. He's probably got a million quid in the bank. He can buy all the Cornetto flavours and make his own Borrell multipack, if he wants.
