Daredevil has been heralded as one of the best TV shows in recent times, though it's about to get a lot more interesting with the casting of The Walking Dead's Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Bernthal will play the iconic anti-hero in the second season of the Netflix show.

DaredevilDaredevil has been one of Netflix's biggest ever successes

Marvel's head of television Jeph Loeb said of the casting: "Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.

"Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."

The Punisher - a real favourite of comic book fans - was last played on screen by Thomas Jane in the 2012 short The Punisher: Dirty Laundry. The actor has reprised his role from the 2004 movie The Punisher.

"He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City's Hell's Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the result," reads Marvel's statement on The Punisher.

Unfortunately for Daredevil fans, it looks to be the end for Vincent D'Onofrio's adversary Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, who is missing from the list of actors set to return for the second season. It's fuelled speculation that it may be The Punisher who returns as the series main villain.

Daredevil season two will be released on Netflix in 2016. Marvel's Jessica Jones, which takes place in the same fictional universe, will be released onto the streaming service later this year.
