When the audience seemed muted, Stewart added: "I'm sorry, I'll be wearing overalls and I won't shower," which received loud cheers. The comedian also announced that fans will have a chance to win tickets to the final show with proceeds going to the Night of Too Many Stars charity.

Back in February, Stewart announced that he would be exiting the post that he has held since 1999. A few weeks ago, Comedy Central announced that South African comedian Trevor Noah would replace Stewart though controversy ensued almost immediately after someone went digging into Noah's off-color tweets
Stewart defended Noah on a Daily Show broadcast, saying, "I do hope you give him an opportunity to earn that trust and respect because my experience with him is that he is an incredibly thoughtful and considerate and funny and smart individual, and man, I think, you give him that time, and it's going to be well worth it. I'm excited for where he's going to take the thing. And I'm going to watch."

Speaking with The Guardian earlier this week, Stewart set out his reasons for leaving the show - still one of the most successful shows on U.S television.
"It's not like I thought the show wasn't working any more, or that I didn't know how to do it. It was more, 'Yup, it's working. But I'm not getting the same satisfaction.'"
