No Half Measures: Mike's Back For 'Breaking Bad' Spin-Off 'Better Call Saul'

The Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul will feature at least two familiar faces on its cast, as Jonathan Banks has been announced to join the production. On Breaking Bad, Banks played everyone’s favorite serial killer for hire, Mike Ehrmantraut and he is going to reprise the role in the Albuquerque-set prequel, The Hollywood Reporter confirms, based on statements from AMC and Sony reps.

Banks will reprise his role as killer-for-hire Mike Ehrmantraut.

Banks himself is yet to comment on the news. On the inevitable danger of sequel fatigue, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan had this to say back in October: "There's obviously a danger inherent in doing a spinoff, but I just love the character of Saul Goodman [Odenkirk] so much, and part of me doesn't want to say no to this world."

Vince Gilligan has hinted at plans to bring other characters out of retirement.

Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks are the only two actors to return for the spin-off so far, although Gilligan has explained on several occasions that he would love to get more of the former cast members to join the project. Cameo status on Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul is still unknown. The premiere date for Better Call Saul also remains unannounced, although AMC have teased it for sometime in November.

Banks appeared on two and a half seasons of Breaking Bad, securing himself an Emmy nomination for his work. He currently has a recurring role on NBC’s community.

No word yet on whether either of the two stars of Breaking Bad has agreed to a cameo.
