Josh Charles stopped by the Letterman show on Monday evening (March 24, 2014), to chat about his character's shocking death in Sunday night's episode of The Good Wife. Josh only told a few family members that Will Garner was getting the chop and said even his neighbors were stunned to hear that his TV persona was no longer.

"Well, it's The Good Wife. He's dead!" David Letterman joked, announcing the star to the show.

"I went downstairs, and I saw by our mailbox, the neighbors across the street, who I don't even know, had left my wife and I a really beautiful note just saying that we feel like a family member had died and we know this is just a TV show and all that. But it was, I have to say, I was very touched by it," Charles said of the reaction to his character's death.

Addressing the mourning 'Good Wife' fans directly, Charles looked down the camera and said "A lot of the...you know, the response on Twitter has been much the same and I just want to say to the fans that, you know, I really appreciate all of your comments."

As for what's next for the actor, he confessed "Oh I have no plan" - which is not strictly too. He recently completed shooting the drama-fantasy movie Bird People - about an American who moves to Paris, turns off his cell phone and starts anew - and Brother's Keeper, a comedy with Nick Kroll, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale.

On Sunday's episode of The Good Wife, Will Gardner was gunned down by an unstable client, who had snatched a security guard's weapon and sprayed bullets across the courtroom, before trying to kill himself.
