Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampire in the City

Vampire Weekend 'Modern Vampire in the City' - 'Modern Vampires in the City' makes it three for three for the New Yorkers and their latest release could very well be their best yet. It shows evolution for the band, but they have retained that essential quality that made 'Contra' and their self-titled debut such wonderfully upbeat and genuine pleasures to listen to each time. 'Modern Vampire in the City' is also the release that marks Vampire Weekend as a band that should be taken seriously, but one who you can still have immense fun with. 'Diane Young' is yet another indie floor filler, standing shoulder to shoulder with previous bangers 'A-Punk' and 'Cousins.' Where the album really excels, however, is when VW reach out to new quarters and sound completely inimitable. The yelps of 'Ya Hey' bring fun to a song that essentially deals with the theme of lost conviction, the graceful 'Hanna Hunt' erupts in the most complete song released this year and album opener 'Obvious Bicycle' sets the whole thing in motion with its refreshingly angelic melodies and steady, train-like clunks that lie beneath all the splendour. Vampire Weekend are no longer the Brooklyn minions rattling at the gates of eminence, the gates have been swung open for them and the welcoming committee should have made them feel rightly at home.

The Saturday Night Live Promos With Jimmy Fallon Are Here! Time To Be Excited

Jimmy Fallon Justin Timberlake Kenan Thompson Kate McKinnon

Are you counting down the days until Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake host/guest on Saturday Night Live? Of course you are. We all are. Only three days left. Despite Fallon being an SNL alumn himself, he wasn’t spared from having to brave the NY cold and record some promos for the Dec 21 event alongside Kenan Thompson and Kate McKinnon. And we’re glad for that, because, predictably, Fallon’s promos are pretty hilarious.

Jimmy Fallon, Macy's Thanksgiving Day ParadeJustin Timberlake, 20/20 Experience Release Party
Brace yourselves, the SNL show you didn't even know you needed is almost here.

And, uh, we hate to break it to you... but JT won’t be there, because of a cancelled flight. Nah, of course he’ll be there, but they did give us a start with that particular joke. Though Fallon and Thompson would be forgiven, since they were apparently forced to stand in the snow (or pigeon droppings, as Jimmy joked in true NY style) for hours to film those promos.

Inside Llewyn Davis Review

Excellent

The Coen brothers have a wry twinkle in their eyes as they take us on a lyrical journey with a hugely likeable musician for whom success is only barely out of reach. It's also an engaging exploration of both the the early 1960s New York folk music scene that gave us Bob Dylan and the tenacity it takes to make your dreams come true.

It's 1961, and Llewyn Davis (Isaac) isn't sure he wants to fight anymore. His career has stalled, and he's moving from couch to couch trying to pick up gigs. But he doesn't have anything to lose, and when he inadvertently acquires a pet cat he has a bit of purpose for a change. On the other hand, his longtime friendship with husband-and-wife folk duo Jim and Jean (Timberlake and Mulligan) is strained when Jean tells him she's pregnant with a child that might be his. In need of cash, he takes a job in Chicago, taking a long road-trip with two nutcases (Hedlund and Goodman). And he even considers re-enlisting in the Merchant Marines.

Despite Llewyn's quiet desperation, the Coens keep the film's tone light and endearing, with constant comical touches that keep us smiling right to the cleverly elliptical ending. They also pack the movie with folk music that's gorgeously produced by T Bone Burnett, offering emotive counterpoints to Llewyn's sardonic sense of humour. His snappy wit often gets him into trouble, but we can immediately see his depth of character as well, and Isaac is terrific in the role, the kind of guy we would happily spend a lot more time with.

Is Justin Timberlake The Biggest Pop Star On The Planet?

Justin Timberlake Drake Lorde

Justin Timberlake scored his second No.1 album of the year on Wednesday (October 9, 2012) when it was announced thatThe 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 sold 350,000 copies in its first week. The first instalment sold 968,000 copies, the biggest opening week sales of the year so far.

It's an incredible feat for the 32-year-old, who returned to music after a five-year hiatus during which he turned in some decent movie performances. The albums charting at No.1 is an achievement in itself, though the volume of sales proves both Timberlake's enduring popularity and the healthy nature of the record business. Second place Drake only managed to shift 148,000 copies, while Lorde's debut Pure Heroine moved 129,000.

Earlier this year, Timberlake had returned with new single Suit & Tie, featuring rapper Jay-Z. It became a chart-topper and The 20/20 Experience was adored by both critics and fans.

Justin Timberlake Earns Second No.1 Album Of 2013 - Greatest Comeback Ever?

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake’s domination of 2013 continues as the singer reaches No.1 with his new album ‘20/20 Experience Part 2 of 2’.

The album is the highly anticipated sequel to the release of ’20/20 Experience’ back in March (2013) and in its first week of release it reaches the top spot on the Billboard album chart.

‘Part 2’ seems to be repeating the same success as the first instalment as JT’s new set sold 350,000 copies since its release at the end of September (27th), according to Nielson SoundScan.

Haim Edge Out Justin Timberlake To Claim UK Album Chart Top Spot

Haim Justin Timberlake

Haim and Justin Timberlake battled it out in one of the most closely contested fights for the top of the UK album chart this weekend, with the all-girl trio only just managing to out muscle Justin's second album of 2013. Earlier this week, it was Justin who led the girls, but after a long-fought weekend it was the 'Don't Save Me' hit-makers who were able to finish the week as the no. 1 artist in the UK.

Haim
Haim managed to beat JT after a long week of competition

According to the Official UK Album Chart, Haim managed to score 2,100 more sales of their debut album, Days Are Gone, than Justin's The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2, which at one point in the week had led the girls by just 28 copies. Ultimately though, it was the three piece from Los Angeles who made the top spot, making Justin have to wait before he can claim his fourth UK number one album.

'Gravity' Leads The Way At The Box Office And Sets New October Record Too

Sandra Bullock George Clooney Ben Affleck Justin Timberlake

Gravity has proved to be the unlikely success story of early October thanks to the overwhelming word-of-mouth success. Having been heralded by the internet long before it was given it's official release on Friday, 4 October, the film rode out it's first weekend stay at the box office with immense success, gaining further praise and breaking the October box office record along the way.

Gravity
Gravity has soared to success

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, both of whom (Bullock in particular) are being touted for awards success thanks to their performances in the film, Gravity has been described as an out of this world ocular treat, held together thanks to the gripping direction of Alfonso Cuaron and the performance of the two stars. This critical and internet-fuelled momentum has seen the film smash previous box office records for the month of October by bringing in an estimated $55.6 million over the weekend. As well as beating the record previously held by Paranormal Activity 3, the film is also the best opening for both of the film's stars, beating The Heat and Batman and Robin respectively.

Box Office Preview: Can 'Parkland' Take On Gravity's Pull, Runner Runner's Star Quality?

Zac Efron Justin Timberlake Ben Affleck George Clooney Sandra Bullock Alfonso Cuaron

Three films go head to head this weekend, all with reasonable claim to the top spot. But will the audiences go for a historical to learn about the demise of JFK; head for the stars with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck or be sucked in by Gravity’s delightful pull.

Colin Hanks and Zac Efron in ParklandColin Hanks and Zac Efron in Parkland

Despite some mediocre reviews, Parkland strings together some attractive qualities: a bona fide history lesson, a great cast and, of course, Zac Efron’s face, which has proven to be a marketable asset up until now, so why would that change now? There are two things that mean Parkland won’t be top of the box office come Monday.

The Reviews Are Here: Has Justin Timberlake Delivered With 'The 20/20 Experience Pt. 2'?

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake triumphantly returned from his stint in Hollywood to reclaim his title as the reigning king of the pop world earlier this year when he released the widely-praised The 20/20 Experience Part 1. It's been six months since the March release of JT's first 2013 experience, and with that time he's been able to perfect each element of the album and fine tune it into potentially one of the best pop albums of the year. But before we can claim it as the release of 2013, what have the critics got to say about The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2?

Justin Timberlkae
Has Justin delivered with his follow-up 'experience'

The final verdict is hard to determine, as Justin has managed to split the critics into three categories; ones who say the album is an exceptional finish to what he started in March, some who say the album is a huge failure and a disappointment at that, and finally those who don't really know what to think, and are sat on the fence as to whether the album should be heralded or lampooned. The first 20/20 Experience had many strong points, but sometimes missed the mark and outran itself on a number of tracks, but it had few people claiming it was an instant classic bar a few notable songs. It looks as though this is the overwhelming verdict with part 2 as well, with critics mostly complaining that the album needed to trade some duds with a few bonafied pop hits to be considered a classic.

Justin Timberlake Is One In 400 Million, Says Ben Affleck

Runner Runner Review

Bad

Clearly something went horribly wrong as this thriller was being made, because despite a solid cast, gorgeous locations and an intriguing premise, the film is an incoherent mess. Sure, it looks achingly cool, but there isn't a single moment when the characters' motivations make any sense. And there's never a hint of suspense or danger.

It doesn't help that the set-up revolves around two of the least cinematic things on earth: finances and computers. Timberlake plays Princeton grad student Richie, who runs a gambling website to pay his tuition but loses his savings when another site cheats him. So he heads to Costa Rica to confront the online casino boss Ivan (Affleck). Impressed with his initiative, Ivan offers him a job, and soon Richie has more cash than he can possibly spend. But for some reason, all he wants is Ivan's colleague-girlfriend Rebecca (Arterton). Then a nosey FBI agent (Mackie) forces Richie to help him take Ivan down.

Director Fuhrman showed considerable promise with another renegade loner in The Lincoln Lawyer, but this film simply refuses to fill in enough of the gaps. Nothing that happens here is remotely convincing, as the characters are continually thrust into half-developed scenarios. Perhaps there's a more coherent longer version out there, because this one feels like it was edited with a machete. Even as a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed, this story has nothing relevant to say.

From Timid Child To Global Superstar, Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake Jay Z

It may come as something of a surprise, but as a child, Justin Timberlake wasn’t the charming, all-singing, all-dancing package he is now; no, indeed, he was quite shy. Up next for Timberlake is the second half of his album duo: ‘The 20/20 Experience: 2 Of 2’ and his new film, ‘Runner Runner’.

Justin TimberlakeTimberlake's comeback has been emphatic

“Funnily enough,” he told Metro, “until I discovered the stage, I really was a pretty shy kid and didn’t talk a lot. I was an only child and I think I had only-child syndrome.”

Justin Timberlake Brings IHeartRadio Music Festival 2013 To A Lively Close

Justin Timberlake Miley Cyrus Joan Jett Kesha Sir Paul McCartney Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Music lovers at the iHeartRadio Music Festival last weekend (September 20th-21st 2013) were in for a treat as Justin Timberlake rounded off the event with a few new tunes.

It was a rather special set from the 'Suit and Tie' singer who has dealt well with the endless live shows and televised performances pretty much running through the whole year. He was introduced to the stage by undefeated welterweight boxer floyd mayweather who crowned him 'the heavyweight champion of music'; a prestigious title that his thrilled audience certainly didn't appear to dispute. As well as performing some timeless hits from 'Cry Me A River' to 'SexyBack' to 'Mirrors', JT unleashed some brand new tracks from 'The 20/20 Experience' follow-up, 'The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2'. He sang his most recent single 'TKO', as well as 'True Blood' and 'Only When I Walk Away'. Even aside from the music Justin was an act not to be missed, oozing with charisma as he owned the stage with his entertaining and often comedic dance routines.

Other notable performances from the weekend came from everyone's favourite controversy Miley Cyrus, who belted out hits such as 'Wrecking Ball' and 'We Can't Stop' wearing a customary revealing outfit; Joan Jett, who teamed up with Ke$ha in an unusual performance which celebrated her 55th birthday; and Paul McCartney, who was promoting his, quite literally, 'New' album set for release on October 15th.

TKO Starts The Countdown To Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience Part 2"

Justin Timberlake Drake Timbaland

After many teasers in the form of tweets and videos, Justin Timberlake’s new single, TKO, is finally here. This is the second single of Justin’s newest album, or rather, the deluxe edition of The 20/20 Experience, 2 of 2. The album features vocals from Drake and Jay Z, the latter of whom Timberlake recently collaborated with on a summer tour, as well as several tracks on both his 20/20 and Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Justin Timberlake, Runner Runner Photocall
This is the second release off 20/20 part 2.

The track, released via Timberlake’s youtube channel, is a 7-minute ode to a former flame of Timberlake’s. It’s an impressive, rather upbeat electronic mix of sound and, like all tracks on 2 of 2, it was originally intended to go on the first release, but just didn’t make the cut. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest recently, the singer explained that the sheer bulk of songs made it impossible to fit everything on to the first album, but that he wanted to release all the songs none the less and that was how The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 came about. The album’s release date – September 30, is fast approaching.

Justin Timberlake Releases New Track 'TKO'

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake released his new track 'TKO' this week (September 19th 2013) and yet again he is duelling it out with an enticing female partner in a losing effort. The lengthy track weighs in at just over 7 minutes and it is the second single to be taken from Timberlake's upcoming 4th studio album '20/20 Experience 2 of 2'.

As the title suggests, the song is full of boxing metaphors that describes a toxic relationship and the 32 year old is the loser in this bout as he chooses not to expose his cheating lover for what she is. The single is much more solid than the 1st track from the upcoming album 'Take Back The Night' and the strong backing Hip-Hop beat can only indicate Justin teamed up once again with regular collaborator Timbaland.

The track, that Timberlake teased fans with via his twitter account, is released in the same week as the crime drama movie 'Runner,Runner' hit theatres and sees the former 'Micky Mouse Club' member star alongside the future Batman, Ben Affleck.

Justin will release the second edition of The 20/20 Experience this month.

Clocking in at a lengthy 7 minutes 6 seconds, it continues Justin's recent attempts to make challenging yet rewarding pop songs. The singer had three songs that clocked in at 8 minutes or over on the first 20/20 Experience and a further four clocking in at over 7 minutes, and when it comes to the second instalment of the 20/20 Experience, Justin will be continuing this trend. With only eleven songs stretched out across 74 minutes, the average length of each song in his will be over 6 and a half minutes long.

Justin Timberlake Ben Affleck

Despite his undisputed success with The 20/20 Experience, Justin Timberlake is still actively working in his film career, most recently with the crime thriller Runner Runner. The movie, which also stars Ben Affleck and Jemma Arterton, centers around Richie Furst (believable names clearly weren’t a priority here), a gifted college student, who excels at mathematics and puts his talents to use playing online poker.

Justin Timberlake goes from a poor college student to an international criminal over the course of this movie.

His mostly harmless hobby later evolves into a much more sinister affair, as Richie struggles to pay his school fees – a situation, painfully familiar to many students. Riddle Me This: Justin Timberlake As The Riddler?

Justin Timberlake Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck is Batman, that’s a fact we’ve all almost come to terms with, but now it looks like Justin Timberlake – another one of those too-popular-to-be-any-good-at-acting types – is vying for a part in the rebooted batman franchise. And he has a very interesting (we’re not even being sarcastic with that) idea of who exactly he should play. We’ll give you a hint – it’s not Robin. Sidenote: as perfect as the idea might seem, Matt Damon won’t be the sidekick either, he has already rejected the possibility.

Justin Timberlake, MTV VMA
Paint that suit green and slap on a mask... it's not that hard to imagine.

No, Timberlake has a different idea of the character he should take on, as he said in Fresh 102.7's Jim and Kim Show: “"I ain't playin' Robin. I have no aspiration to ever be a superhero in a movie. Now VILLAIN! I'll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything because I grew up loving Batman, funny enough, is the Riddler. The Riddler is my favorite villain.” In fact, as E!News noted, Timberlake is already in the midst of promotion of another film where he collaborated with Affleck, Runner Runner.

VMAs Reminded Us Of Why We Hated Each Other - No NSYNC Reunion Then?

Justin Timberlake N Sync

Any Nsync fans out there latently hoping for a full-fledged reunion to add to the band’s mini one at the MTV VMAs better get ready for some disappointing news: they’re not getting back together, and if anything, their brief flirtation with a comeback simply reminded them what split them up in the first place.

"It was funny because all of us getting back together, we remembered what we love about each other and what we hate about each other," band member Chris Kirkpatrick said Monday in a Florida radio interview with Johnny's House. "It was just a bit of fun. (U.S Magazine)

According to Kirkpatrick, the whole thing was designed to help Justin out; they were part of his set, and the goal was not to mess it up for him. "Honestly, when he talked to us I thought we were just coming out with mic stands and singing," he admitted. "When I came home from rehearsals my girl's like 'Why are you drenched?' . . .I'm too old for this! I was so worried about not messing up for him."

Sunday (25 August) night saw the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York taken over by the biggest names in pop for one night only, as the 29th annual MTV Video Music Awards took the recently-completed venue by storm in an awards show that, like most VMAs, will be long remembered. In all there were eleven different winners in the sixteen different categories, whilst the ceremony itself was an onslaught of musical surprises and memorable performances, as the VMAs continued to live up to it's billing as the 'Oscars for youth.'

Justin Timberlake
Justin was the biggest winner on the night

The biggest winner of the night was pop's returning prince Justin Timberlake, who not only won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for his services to the music industry, but also took home another three awards for two of his The 20/20 Experience music videos. His comeback single 'Suit & Tie' won Best Direction, whilst the follow-up single 'Mirrors earned the former N*Sync singer the Best Editing and the coveted Video of the Year Award. And speaking of N*Sync, during Timberlake's medley of hits prior to the Video Vanguard handing over, we were finally treated to the long-overdue reunion of N*Sync, who performed their memorable hits 'Girlfriend' and 'Bye Bye Bye.' We would have been more surprised, if it wasn't such a poorly kept secret.

N Sync Reunion On The Way? Band Reportedly Planning Comeback For VMAs

N Sync Justin Timberlake Jay Z Kanye West Michael Jackson Janet Jackson

N Sync reunion at the VMAs? Surely this is too good to be true! Well apparently this is supposedly what is going to happen at the Snday, 25 August awards show, according to reports coming from within MTV. Vulture first reported that it had heard from people working behind the scenes at the VMAs that Justin, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass and JC Chasez will once again be hooking up for a long, long awaited reunion.

Justin Timberlake
Justin will be awarded the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Awards at this weekend's ceremony

As already reported, Justin is already going to receive a special award on the night; the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in honour of his long-serving career in the music biz, but as good a news this is, the fact that he'll be there with the boys from his N Sync days just makes this the best news we've heard all week. After a thoroughly triumphant return to the music scene this year with his well-received 20/20 Experience and the upcoming follow-up, The 20/20 Experience 2 Of 2, it was thought that Justin's own success would get in the way of any N Sync reunion ever happening, but luckily this clearly isn't the case.

Is Justin Timberlake A Vampire: Track List For '20/20 Experience Pt. 2' Revealed

Justin Timberlake Jay Z

Justin Timberlake has announced the follow-up to March's mega-selling 'Pt. 1' of his 20/20 Experience album project. The 20/20 Experience Pt. 2 can be expected to hit on 29th September this year and - not only this - Justin has recently announced the track listing for his upcoming record and fourth studio album as a solo artist.

Justin Timberlake

You'll recognise a track or two already from 20/20 Pt. 2 such as lead single 'Take Back The Night' with its dancey New York at nighttime music video. Despite controversy from a rape charity with the same name, who complained that their cause would be compromised if listeners started to associate the phrase with lyrics such as "use me," the song saw middling success with its highest position in the charts at No.8 on the USA's Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart.

Justin Timberlake's 'The 20/20 Experience - 2 Of 2' Tracklist Goes Viral

Justin Timberlake

In case you forgot, Justin Timberlake is back! And never one to do things lightly, the singer has unveiled the tracklist for his follow-up to this year's The 20/20 Experience, which he has imaginatively titled The 20/20 Experience - 2 Of 2, in a typically cool fashion. The singer/actor/everyman took to his Instagram page to reveal the 11 new tracks, but rather than send them all out at once, Timberlake preferred to bide his time and release each track name over the course of a few hours.

Justin Timberlake Legends of Summer
Justin will release his second album of the year at the end of September

Beginning on Wednesday (14 August) afternoon, eventually finishing his grand unveiling by the end of the night, the singer uploaded 11 different videos to his Instagram account, each one revealing a new song name. Writing down each track title in a blank notebook, by the end of the day we had the full tracklisting in all it's glory. Judging by some of the song names, like 'Murder,' 'True Blood' and 'Drink You Away,' it seems as though the album might very well be a much darker side to Timberlake than his March release was, not that we're complaining about anything. All JT is good JT after all.

The NY singer called a "911 pop emergency" on Monday after a snippet from the lead single from her upcoming album, Artpop, leaked on the internet. "Little Monsters" rushed to their idol's aide by reporting illegal uploads to record company UMG but the hot new track spread like wildfire across the internet. Gaga made the radical decision to change the single's release date to the 12th Aug, dropping the new track immediately on American radio stations to combat the pirates.

Beyonce 50 Million Pepsi Deal And Other Massive Celebrity Endorsements

Beyonce's £50 million Pepsi deal opened up a wider debate on celebrities, advertising and promotion last year, with Mrs Carter seemingly having no qualms selling sugary carbonated drinks despite helping Michelle Obama's Let's Move fitness campaign.

For years, Pepsi and Coca-Cola have been criticized for targeting children, with many arguing that when consumed to excess the drinks have negative effects on long-term health. However, in a recent interview with Flaunt, Beyonce rejected the idea of hypocrisy, saying, "Pepsi is a brand I've grown up seeing my heroes collaborate with. The company respects musicians and artistry. I wouldn't encourage any person, especially a child, to live life without balance."

The singer - the biggest R&B star in the world - has been heavily criticized for lending her name to the brand.

The sixth album from R&B singer Robin Thicke hits shelves today, though...it's kind of irrelevant, given all anyone cares about is the single, Blurred Lines, and its unrated video.

Could it possibly provide fans with anything more than the pop-tastic Billboard No.1 hit that will comfortably become the biggest selling single of the year?

Well, it turns out the album is pretty good, too.

Jay Z & Justin Timberlake Take Chicago By Storm At Soldier Field

Jay Z Justin Timberlake Alicia Keys

R&B star Justin Timberlake and rapper Jay Z took their Magna Carta Holy Grail joint show to a sold out concert to the Chicago's Soldier Fields stop on their world tour. Their gig was certainly a spectacle of music, light and performance but The Chicago Tribute notes an intriguing moment during their joint headline concert when Timberlake apologised to the crowd after he launched into his own rendition of Sinatra's 'New York, New York' to a chorus of boos from the Chi-town crowd. "You know I love you, Chicago, right?" asked JT after he sensed unrest from within the audience. However, festooned with gold bling, rapper Jay Z strode up for an unapologetic performance of 'Empire State of Mind'; a serenade to his beloved home city, commanding the 50,000 fans to join in with the pre-recorded Alicia Keys performance.

Jay Z Weighed Down By Heavy Chains.

The Journal Sentinel remarks that the duo "fell short of delivering the No. 1 concert experience of the year," with "minimal banter" and interaction other than singing between the performers that "came off more as obligation than admiration." However, theirs was reportedly a highly slick collaboration that blended the distinct musical talents of the pair well, such as Jay Z's 'I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)' weaving in and out with Timberlake's 'Rock Your Body' and, of course, the MCHG track 'Suit & Tie' in which JT sings whilst Jay Z raps.

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z kicked off their joint 'Legends of the Summer' tour at Toronto's 45,000 seater Rogers Center on Wednesday (July 17, 2013). Backed by a 15-piece jazz band, the performers treated the sell-out crowd to hits from both back catalogues with each lending the other a helping hand.

Fresh from news that his twelfth studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail had topped the US Billboard Top 200, Jay-Z kicked things off with new tracks 'Holy Grail,' and 'Tom Ford,' as well as classic '99 Problems.'

Afterwards, Timberlake performed 'Let The Groove Get In' from his latest record 'The 20/20 Experience,' as well as oldies 'Rock Your Body' and 'Cry Me A River.' JT also performed 'Take Back The Night,' which serves as the lead single from the second volume of his latest album, due for release on September 30, 2013.

The nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 have been announced, with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Justin Timberlake leading the field. Armed with their videos for 'Can't Hold Us' and 'Thrift Shop,' the hip-hop duo will square off against JT at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on August 25, 2013.

Both acts received six nominations, with Timberlake getting nods for his 'Suit and Tie' and 'Mirrors' promos. Elsewhere, Bruno Mars appears to have every chance of taking home the prize of 'Video of the Year' with 'Locked out of Heaven,' though Robin Thicke's controversial clip for 'Blurred Lines' and Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' will also be popular.

The VMAs - one of the biggest events on the pop music calendar - represents the first time a major awards show has been held in Brooklyn. The place has been a mecca for art and culture for years, though the Barclays Center appears to have truly put it on the map.

Incredibly, Jay-Z has landed his first ever UK number one album, with Magna Carta Holy Grail storming the chart and holding off Mumford & Sons and Rod Stewart. The rapper's previous highest-charting album was the 2011 collaborate effort with Kanye West, Watch the Throne, which entered at No.3.

Holy Grail managed to hold off Mumford & Sons' Babel despite a surge in sales following the group's triumphant headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival. Jay-Z also comfortably outsold Rod Stewart's number-one album Time. Passenger took the third spot with All The Little Light, with Canadian crooner Michael Buble dropped two places to No.4 with To Be Loved.

Jay-Z has been performing in the UK this weekend, headlining the second night of the Wireless music festival at the Queen Elizabeth Park on the former Olympics site. "I feel the love tonight," Jay-Z, 43, told the crowd, "You've been an incredible audience tonight." The rapper - still one of the biggest hip-hop acts in the world - was joined by Timberlake during the encore for a rendition of Holy Grail.

It was the glorious festival collaboration that turned sour: Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake collaborated on tracks from Jay-Z's new album Magna Carta Holy Grail in a three day series of surprise performances and "I was there" moments. Sunday evening's performance approached and the 40,000-strong crowd of music fans waited for the joint headline performance that would serve as the cherry on top of a one-in-a-lifetime celebration of hiphop sounds. However, in currently unknown circumstances at 9pm two men were stabbed and had to be rushed to hospital where one is reportedly currently stable, yet one is said to be "in critical condition," according to Scotland Yard via BBC News.

Will Justin Timberlake Be Sued For 'Take Back The Night' Track Title?

Justin Timberlake Robin Thicke Jay Z

Timberlake debuted new track 'Take Back The Night' at London's Wireless Festival during his Friday headline slot, to great excitement from fans but one organisation apparently is not impressed with the 'Sexyback' singer's choice of track name. Take Back The Night, an anti-rape charity, are "shocked" to learn that Timberlake chose the name of their organisation for his new song which features overtly sexual lyrics. "Tonight the night, come on surrender/ I won't lead your love astray, astray, yeah/ Your love's a weapon/ Give your body some direction/ That's my aim," sings Timberlake who clearly graduated from the same school of persuasive courtship as 'Blurred Lines' singer Robin Thicke.

Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake Is In A Spot Of Trouble With A Charity Whose Name He Used Without Permission.

Essentially, it's a typical Timberlake track, laced with whistles and a horn section and those distinctive falsetto vocals, i.e. it's bound to be a mega hit. So it's no wonder really that JT's ruffled a few feathers over the identity of the titling phrase; the charity are perturbed to say the least, with Take Back the Night Foundation Executive Director Katherine Koestner explaining to Radar Online: "We have some big concerns. For example, all of a sudden on Wikipedia, Take Back the Night has a different definition. That's not been helpful." Turning scrutiny towards the song's sexually-themed lyrics, Koestner adds "The lyrics are definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence. 'Use me,' for example, is not a great phrase for anyone affiliated with the organization."

Justin Timberlake Will Strike While The Iron Is Hot With 20/20 Part 2

Justin Timberlake

Oh boy, oh boy, Justin Timberlake is making new music again. Well, not really, but he’ll be releasing some anyway. The singer’s Take Back The Night single, which dropped earlier this week, isn’t just a callback to Thriller era Michael Jackson – though it certainly is that too – it is also a teaser for more upcoming music from Timberlake. And really, what could be better than that – aside from universal peace and harmony and chocolate cake of course.

Justin Timberlake, Yahoo Wireless Festival
No rest for the wicked, or in this case, the phenomenally successful.

The album will be a sequel to The 20/20 Experience, quite creatively titled The 20/20 Experience Part 2. It makes perfect sense for Timberlake to go in that direction, of course, and right on the heels of his March release. After all, the original 20/20 was the first (and so far only) release this year to pass the 2 million sales mark and Take Back The Night is quickly gaining similar fan approval.

Jay-Z Unveils Justin Timberlake Featuring Track And 'Magna Carta' Artwork Prior To Universal Release [Listen]

Jay Z Justin Timberlake

Jay-Z will release his next album, Magna Carta, Holy Grail, next week, having already made the release available for Samsung smartphone users on Thursday (July 4) as part of a marketing ploy. Before then we got to hear a new track, one featuring his 'Suit & Tie' collaborator Justin Timberlake no less, and see the artwork for it too, with the artwork being unveiled in true Jay-Z style.

As expected, the album leaked before the official release date

At Salisbury Cathedral in the UK, Jay's new album was placed alongside one of the original copies of the actual Magna Carta - the history-changing British legislation that regulated the amount of power any future king has - in a photo-op that gave people their first look at the cover. This wasn't just a one-time, Instagram-worthy photo occasion, as Salisbury Cathedral will also hold a month-long installation featuring artwork from the new album. David Dimbleby hasn't been reached for comment.

Justin Timberlake's Explicit New Video Is Removed From YouTube (But You Can Still See It Here) [Video]

Justin Timberlake

Singer/actor/everyman Justin Timberlake is experiencing what could very well be his first-ever backlash after his explicit video for the track 'Tunnel Vision' caused a stir when it was uploaded to YouTube earlier this week. A few people weren't too bothered by the nude-lady-heavy video, after all it did come with a warning, but YouTube have been forced to step in and take the video down from their site. Don't worry though, you can still see the video online (and on this site too - you can see it below).

The Google-owned video hosting site were forced to take the nudity-heavy video down from their site as it came into conflict with YouTube guidelines, which specifically states that any video with a gratuitous nature and heavy nudity will be taken down from the site. So even JT isn't above YouTube law, but as we all know the internet spreads much further than YouTube and the video is still very accessible.

Justin Timberlake's 'Tunnel Vision' video - the unrated version - has been banned by YouTube for violating the website's nudity and sexual content policy.

The pop star released a promo for his new song earlier this week, which featured various nude women standing behind him as he performed - not unlike Robin Thicke's Blurred lines unrated video.

According to MTV, the video also featured a projection screen which played over the bodies of the women. Timberlake - who's returning album The 20/20 Experience was a monumental success - had warned fans on Twitter that the music video was a little bit raunchy and YouTube duly removed it from the site. He said, "Check out the new video for Tunnel Vision and be ready...it's explicit."

The partnership between the self-appointed CEO of hip-hop and the electronic giants Samsung represents the biggest, and possibly the most innovative marketing ploy for an album. And Weiner, CEO of the ad agency WDCW, reckons Samsung laid out another $15m for the campaign as a whole.

Jay-Z Reveals Lyrics To Justin Timberlake Featuring, Nirvana Sampling Song 'Holy Grail'

Jay Z Justin Timberlake Courtney Love Nirvana

As we all know, Jay-Z‘s new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, will be arriving in the very near future and so far we've heard a few details about the album, but on the whole we're still waiting on something, anything, that can indicate where the album will go musically. The tracklist didn't change this, but things will change on Tuesday (June 25) when Jay releases the album's first single, 'Holy Grail,' and in the meantime Hova has been kind enough to leak some information surrounding the track.

As we've already heard from Courtney Love, one of the tracks on the album will feature lyrics from the Nirvana track 'Smells Like Teen Spirit,' however what she didn't tell us was what the track might sound like or what it would be called, but with a day to spare we've now know which lyric was used and where it will be, not to mention who will be appearing on the track too. Fresh off the success of working together on 'Suit & Tie,' Justin Timberlake - who is singing the Nirvana line - will show up to sing the hook and do some crooning as well.

Timberlake sings; "and we're all just/entertainers/and we're stupid/and contagious," on the hook, following on from Jay's line; "I know nobody to blame/Kurt Cobain/I did it to myself."

Successful mainstream acts, like Justin Timberlake or Bruno Mars, will be honoured but emerging bands will be able to compete with each other on the online 'Artist Platform' to win a TV-airing of their music video.

Justin Vs. Justin! Timberlake And Bieber Both Announced For ITunes Festival 2013

Justin Timberlake Justin Bieber Jake Bugg Queens Of The Stone Age

The iTunes Festival is back! Which is great news for those of you who like going to something with the word ‘festival’ in the title, but don’t actually like the realities of what a British festival is – namely, mud, dodgy tents and someone throwing what you hope is just beer over your head from a distance.

That’s right iTunes Festival takes place indoors – namely at the Roundhouse in Camden, London and boy oh boy do they have a line-up for you this year. The festival will be running every night through September – an excited Jared Leto has told Heat that 30 Seconds To Mars will be performing on the 18th – and has unveiled the first name to play this year’s event. Joining Leto and co will be Justin Timblerake, Jessie J, Jack Johnson, Jake Bugg, Phoenix, Primal Scream and Queens Of The Stone Age. It’s a pretty mixed line-up really, though there’s no doubting the star power.

It’ll be interesting to see how Biebs gets on back in Blighty given that he had a less than enjoyable time in the country earlier in the year, including being turned away from clubs and turning up on stage two hours late. Expect more of the line-up to be revealed in the next few weeks.

Paris Hilton Recording Her First New Album In 7 Years...With Lil Wayne?

Paris Hilton David Bowie Justin Timberlake Daft Punk Lil Wayne

There have been plenty of music comebacks this year, from David Bowie to Justin Timberlake to Daft Punk. But we all know the one you’ve really been waiting for, don’t we? It’s Paris Hilton of course! Tragically MIA from the music industry since her 2006 debut LP Paris (which, we were shocked to re-discover, went to number six on the Billboard charts and sold around 200,000 copies in the States,) she’s confirmed that she’s back in the music making game! And has signed a record deal with, um, a hip hop label!

Showbiz411 first reported the story, Paris is apparently already recording her second album and is putting it out on the world famous rap label CashMoney! And Lil Wayne’s possibly going to be one it! So does that mean that the multi-millionaire heiress is going to be spitting some mad rhymes on her forthcoming material? Not quite, though she insists that it will be a markedly different sound from her previous record. We can’t remember what her previous sound was, so we’re just going to nod blindly in agreement with her.

“This is a lot different than my first album,” Paris Showbiz 411. “It’s really going to be house music.” Sounds great! Perhaps. Ever the business woman, Hilton also revealed she was back at work on her fragrance ranges. “I’m getting ready to launch my 17th perfume,” she said. “And I’m also starting the Paris Hilton Foundation for children’s causes.”

Dude Won't Abide: Coens Play Down 'Big Lebowski' Sequel At Cannes

Ethan Coen Joel Coen Jeff Bridges Oscar Isaac Carey Mulligan Justin Timberlake

The Coen brothers may have emerged as the new favourites for this year's Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival after their new movie Inside Llewyn Davis received five star reviews across the board, though the filmmakers have shot down reports they are developing a sequel to their cult hit The Big Lebowski.

The 1998 comedy about Jeff Bridges' hippie bowler character 'The Dude' is amongst the Coen's most popular work and Bridges himself has spoken of being open to a sequel. "John Turturro, who wants it, talks to us incessantly about doing a sequel about his (bowler) character Jesus," Ethan Coen said at Cannes this week, "He even has the story worked out, which he's pitched to us a few times, but I can't really remember it. No, I don't see it in our future." If Ethan left the slightest possibility of a sequel, brother Joel shut down door firmly shut, "I don't think it's going to happen ... I just don't like sequels," he said.

The Coen brothers eighth placement in the competition for the prestigious Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival could be their strongest chance since Barton Fink, which won the award in 1991. It's been six years since the filmmakers have been in competition at Cannes though it seems Inside Llewyn Davis could see the brothers back with a bang.

The movie, loosely based on Dave Von Ronk's posthumously published memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street, follows Oscar Issac as a singer-songwriter who navigates the testing New York folk music scene of the 1960s. The film, boasting an all-star casting including Isaac, Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby), Justin Timberlake (The Social Network), Garrett Hudlund (On The Road), Adam Driver (Girls) and John Goodman (Argo), Inside Llewyn Davis appears to have all the attributes of a possible Palme D'Or winner and the Coens appear to have spent time making it the best movie possible. It is believed the brothers could have rushed the film into last year's Oscar season though decided against it. Timberlake has contributed to the movie's soundtrack, as has Mulligan's husband Marcus Mumford and T Bone Burnett, who helped shift 8 million copies of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? score.

Inside Llewyn Davis Trailer

Llewyn Davis is a struggling folk musician attempting to find his place in the world by scouring New York's Greenwich Village at the height of folk in 1961. Along the way he meets old friends who are not particularly happy to see him because of his own unresolved mistakes in the past, and while he strives to find a venue to do what he loves doing, hitchhiking across roads in the freezing winter with a beat-up guitar and a homeless cat, he is forced to question not only himself as a person, but also where and what he really wants his future to be.

'Inside Llewyn Davis' is an emotional musical drama written and directed by Oscar winners Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, aka The Coen Brothers ('No Country for Old Men', 'True Grit', 'Fargo'). It has been very loosely based on the posthumous 2005 memoirs 'The Mayor of MacDougal Street' by the late New York folk artist Dave Van Ronk, and has been nominated to compete for the sought after Palme d'Or prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. This passionate story about love, music, finding oneself and learning from one's mistakes will hit screens in the UK on January 24th 2014.

Ellen DeGeneres Poked Fun At Cher Ahead Of Singer's Visit To The Show

Cher Ellen Degeneres Gwyneth Paltrow Justin Timberlake Jessica Biel

Cher stopped by Ellen yesterday to have for a chat about her life, her career and her son Chaz. Not before a quick outfit change for Ellen though, as it turned out she and Cher were wearing the same thing! Ok, they weren’t really, the whole thing was a gag by Ellen to tease her iconic guest’s appearance. On the day before, the talk show host tweeted a digitally altered image of Cher’s body in her infamous sequined bodysuit, but with Ellen’s head, instead of her own, The Daily Mail reports. Ah, the magic of image-altering software! The sailor hat was a nice touch as well.

The gags were set aside during Cher’s actual visit though, as she, her 86-year-old mother 86-year-old mother Georgia Holt and her 61-year-old half-sister Georganne LaPiere talked to Ellen about the coming out story of Cher’s son, Chaz Bono. Apparently Chaz didn’t go the traditional route and instead came out to his grandmother first, with Cher being the last one to find out that her son was gay.

'That's a big deal to come out to the grandmother,' DeGeneres said.

After The 20/20 Release, Justin Timberlake Is Collaborating With Juicy J, Says Wiz Khalifa

Justin Timberlake Wiz Khalifa Juicy J

With his boy band days firmly behind him, it looks like Justin Timberlake is finally getting some street cred. Wiz Khalifa talked about Justin’s upcoming collaboration with the King Of Ratchet, Juicy J. Timberlake is just one of the collaborators to be featured on the album, but also probably the most high-profile one.

“He's got songs with Justin Timberlake,” said Wiz. "He has a song with the Weeknd… but it's like a real hood album too, you know Juicy's projects." This isn’t the first time J and J have joined forces on a project, though. Justin’s last album, Future Sex/ Love Sounds featured the song Chop Me Up, on which Timberlake worked along with Three 6 Mafia. So now JT is simply returning the favor. Wiz also revealed some other details about Juicy’s upcoming work, delving into plans for his future summer project, Stay Trippy: "He's really breaking his back to give it that old sound mixed with the new, nothing forced."

Wiz went into detail to praise Juicy’s work, but of course, the rapper is a signee of Taylor Gang – Wiz Khalifa’s own project. What are protégés for, if not to be promoted at every opportunity, after all. In any case, if you’re interested in hearing J&J’s collab, keep your eyes and ears on the interwebz – it should be dropping soon.

Justin Timberlake Charms The White House – Is There Anything He Can’t Do?

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake’s renaissance can now be considered complete; he’s charmed his way through the albums charts and various chat shows, and now he’s slinking around The White House.

He was there, amongst some other musical legends, to celebrate Memphis soul music with the First Family. "Oh, watching you all's faces - priceless," Michelle Obama said, according to a White House transcript. "Priceless. See, you never know what's going to happen at the White House. Okay, let's breathe. Come on. Everyone, let's breathe, even the moms." Timberlake performed “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay” with consummate ease while Obama bobbed his presidential head along. “Tonight, I’m speaking not just as president but as one of America’s best-known Al Green impersonators,” quipped the 44th President of The United States. “I just want everybody to know that it is now my second term,” he added. “So rather than ‘Hail to the Chief,’ we’re going with that from here on out."

A Week In Music - James Blake Still Seeking His Niche, Yeah Yeah Yeahs Triumph With Lily Cole Video, Eels Stage A Love-In In Bournemouth

James Blake John Grant Die! Die! Die! The Eels Yo La Tengo Yeah Yeah Yeahs Laura Mvula Justin Timberlake Rolling Stones Noel Gallagher Damon Albarn Glastonbury Festival

James Blake Overgrown Artwork

Albums of Note... It’s been a long two years since James Blake released his debut eponymous album and now, the pioneering producer returns with Overgrown, album number two. Peppered with quality collaborations, with hip-hop legend RZA and electronic music’s figurehead Brian Eno, Overgrown is the sound of an artist still trying to find his niche, but releasing high quality, accomplished tracks, whilst he’s on his journey. Blake really is a talent to behold, as his ingenious moulding together of poles apart genres and production wizardry clearly shows… when you're already as accomplished at all manner of musical exercises as he is then it will obviously be hard to focus all this talent and all this energy into one place.

Splitting opinion like musical Marmite, John Grant returns with Pale Green Ghosts. This album may sound unrecognisable as Grant, to anyone already familiar with his work. He’s hooked up with Gus Gus’ Biggi Viera and has decamped to Reykjavik. As a result, a new reliance on vintage-sounding synthesisers and a nod to club-land has John Grant sounding like an altogether different proposition to the John Grant of days gone by.Grant's dyspeptic edge may be blunted, but when called upon the man can make a fine ass post-modern disco song, like we ever doubted that he could, and Blackbelt is a tweaked remix away from the transient world of A Lists, charts and chat shows. Cleverly poignant, its way with knock out disses would give Jake Shears something to think about if it proved to be a permanent change of direction…

'The 20/20 Experience': Justin Timberlake's Killer Sales Week

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake’s big return “The 20/20 Experience” has been having one hell of an opening week, breaking records left and right.

With 968,000 moved off the shelves in the first week, the record blows the year’s previous best-seller – Mumford and Sons’ Babel – clear out of the water. 20/20 is the biggest first-week earner, ever since Taylor Swift cleaned up last October, with 1.2 million copies of her album Red sold in the first week, Rolling Stone reports.

Then again, it isn’t really a surprise that everyone wants to know what all the fuss is about – after all, we’ve been hearing about Justin Timberlake’s big comeback for so long now, it’s probably firmly embedded in everybody’s subconscious. It started with the surprise Twitter and Youtube campaign for Suit and Tie, followed by performances at the Super Bowl, the Grammy Awards, Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon, you name it. When Justin says comeback, he really does mean comeback.

The Oscars Slalom Into March To Avoid The Winter Olympics

Justin Timberlake Seth Macfarlane

There will not be a single Oscar handed out in February 2014, and that’s because the ceremony will be held in March. See, the Academy bods are so worried about attention being deflected from the biggest night in Hollywood, that they’ve pandered to the biggest week in… winter sports.

The Winter Olympics will be taking place in Sochi, Russia from February 7-23, and it has become customary for the Academy to step aside while the games are on. It’s only an issue they have to deal with every four years. This way, both events get the ratings, and people don’t have to make that oh-so-difficult decision: bobsleighs or award speeches. We’re shuddering at the thought of such a dilemma. Still, if the calibre of host doesn’t improve from last year's pretty woeful Seth Macfarlane, then watching skinny athletes fall over on the show might just be a more electable option. Credit where credit’s due for the Family Guy creator, 40m people tuned in to watch it, so he did his job. So the date’s cleared up.

Justin Timberlake Celebrates Career Best Album Figures; Could He Break 1 Million In The US?

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is back on top of the pop world again, with his first album in seven years smashing into the top of the UK album charts, and expected to do much the same when the Billboard charts reveal their own US album list later this week.

Billboard reports that The 20/20 Experience was the fastest-selling title of the year when debuting at number one in the UK yesterday, notching up sales of around 106,000 copies in its first week, pushing David Bowie’s own comeback The Next Day down to second spot (it sold 35,000 copies after selling 91,000 the previous week.)

It’s the most successful first week on the UK albums chart Timberlake’s ever had, and it barnstorming success looks set to roll over back to his native America.
