The rapper was billed to hit the stage alongside the likes of Death Cab For Cutie and Bat For Lashes at the Governors Ball festival on Randall's Island on Sunday (05Jun16), but the event has been scrapped due to the "high likelihood of lightning", according to organisers.

"The safety of fans, artists and crew always comes first," a statement from festival bosses reads.

Two Door Cinema Club, Gary Clark Jr., and Chvrches were also among the artists whose Sunday sets were cancelled.

Vince Staples and Joey Bada$$, whose Governors Ball warm-up shows at Irving Plaza were cancelled earlier this week (beg30May16) due to the fallout from a fatal shooting incident backstage at a T.I. concert at the same venue, also missed out on performing at the Randall's Island festival.

The show went on on Saturday (04Jun16) despite heavy rain, and organisers revealed Sunday's performances could be affected, writing: "If weather conditions are deemed unsafe for the festival, Sunday’s show will be delayed or cancelled."

The Governors Ball wasn't the only major festival cancelled because of weather warnings on Sunday - organisers of Germany's Rock Am Ring also pulled the plug on the last day of their weekend event due to storms. More than 80 people were injured there on Friday (03Jun16) when lightning struck the site. Lightning also hit the German festival last year (15), injuring 33 music fans.

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Sabbath were among the headliners of this year's (16) Rock Am Ring in Mendig.

And organisers of the Hot 97 Summer Jam event in New Jersey also cancelled the outdoor pre-show segment of their festival at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Sunday (05Jun16) .

Rappers Desiigner and Chance the Rapper were among the acts whose sets were scrapped.

The main show will now start at 8pm local time.

It will feature Fat Joe, Remy Ma, and Pusha T, while rumours suggest Jay Z may make an appearance.
