With a matter of hours to go before he takes to the stage for his controversial Glastonbury headline show on Saturday night, it seems as if Kanye West is already making his presence felt. He’s bringing such a large entourage to the festival that other bands’ guestlists have had to be restricted.

British indie stars The Maccabees stated to BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat that they “were told we only had one guest each this time,” according to the band’s guitarist Felix White. “I've not got that many other friends who want to come, but I'm just making a point!”

The Maccabees, who are released their fourth album Marks To Prove It next month, are performing on the Other Stage on Saturday, while Kanye is the much-discussed headline act on the Pyramid Stage. When he was announced as the second headliner earlier this year, the infamous petition was launched and attracted over 134,000 signatures.

White and his bandmate, singer Orlando Weeks, were obviously asked for their take on Kanye’s headline slot. “I think it's great - you want to go to festivals to see things you wouldn't otherwise choose to go and see. He's one of the most famous entertainers in the world. I think people should get into it. It's a treat.”

Earlier on in the day, the rapper and his reality TV star wife Kim Kardashian were snapped arriving at the Somerset site via helicopter, but there would seem to be many, many more of his friends turning up. “We were told that this viewing platform's been set up just for Kanye so he's got hundreds and hundreds of guests apparently,” White continued.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis revealed earlier this month that she had been the subject of death threats via social media as a result of Kanye’s booking. The 38 year old is a notoriously unpredictable live performer, known to launch into impromptu lectures on-stage.

Even if he does so at Glasto, it surely can’t be worse than Bono’s unexpected a-capella version of ‘Jerusalem’, can it? The world awaits.
