Garbage's Shirley Manson has accused Kanye West of being "small and petty and spoilt" in an open letter to the rapper after he criticized Beck for winning album of the year at the Grammys. Kanye interrupted Beck's acceptance speech and backstage interview to claim the rocker's win was "disrespectful to inspiration."

Shirley MansonShirley Manson said Kanye disrespected his own "remarkable talents"

The Scottish singer-songwriter said: "Dear Kanye. It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.

"You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own. Grow up and stop throwing your toys around. You are making yourself look like a complete twat."

"Ps. I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn't need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she's got everything covered perfectly well on her own."

BeckBeck won the Grammy for Best Album for Morning Phase

West made a brief stage invasion at the Grammys - almost echoing his famous interruption of Taylor Swift's speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs - before seemingly thinking better of it and criticizing Beck later.

Still, despite the farcical incident, Beck was in forgiving spirits and told US Weekly, "I thought she was going to win. Come on, she's Beyoncé! . . . You can't please everybody, man. I still love [West] and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."

"I was just so excited he was coming up. [West] deserves to be onstage as much as anybody. How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?"

Go out and buy Beck's Morning Phase now. It's brilliant.
