Directed by Michael Winterbottom, the movie will be adapted from Barbie Latza Nadeau's book, Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox, which references murder suspect Amanda Knox who is a central suspect in the case.

Knox, 26, and former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 29, were convicted and jailed in 2009 for the killing of their British housemate Meredith Kercher who was on her year abroad. The pair spent two years in jail before being cleared on appeal in 2011 and released. The appeal was then overturned by Italy's supreme court this year, and a new trial is currently under way in Florence, ahead of the case's likely return to the supreme court, according to The Guardian.

Knox is currently in America and resolutely protests her innocence in a case that has captivated the world. A man named Rudy Guede is currently serving a 16 year prison sentence.

Beckinsale will reportedly play a journalist following a murder case in which a young woman is accused of a horrific murder. Model Cara Delevingne is set to play the murder suspect whilst Rush's Daniel Brühl has apparently been cast as a documentary filmmaker who is chasing the case, according to CNN.

Whilst promoting his latest movie, The Love of Love, Winterbottom spoke of his upcoming murder mystery movie: "We bought the rights to the book that tells the story of the trial, but our film is not really about that, so we are always a bit wary of even saying that," he told The Hollywood Reporter.  "Our film is actually about losing a daughter, losing someone close to you; why are we so interested in violence and why are we not more interested in love."

Daniel Brühl Will Play A Documentary Filmmaker.

As the case brought back into Italian courts, the movie will begin filming in Italy.
