Chat show host Andy Cohen had tried his best to avoid asking his guest Kate Hudson about her rumoured romance with Nick Jonas on ‘Watch What Happens: Live’, but a caller to the show ended up doing it instead, ending in a slightly awkward exchange.

The 36 year old actress was a guest on Tuesday night’s edition of the Bravo show (October 20th), and has been widely rumoured to be dating the former boyband member for the last couple of months. Cohen was clearly itching to ask the question himself, but wanted to put Hudson at ease throughout the interview. However, he was excited that the opportunity came from elsewhere for him to press the question on everybody’s lips.

A caller asked Hudson bluntly: “Are the rumours true that you’re dating Nick Jonas?” At which Cohen pounced excitedly… “Here’s my feeling,” he told her. “You are so hot, I’ve seen you in person now a couple of times, and Nick Jonas has been here a couple of times, he’s so hot … I love it when hot people are together. It’s my favourite thing!”

Though she was visibly trying to dodge the question, Cohen tried his best to get her to ask it, only to be met by avoidance tactics.

“I don’t - I don’t like addressing any kind of gossip, no,” she said flatly. This didn’t deter the host, as he told Kate: “I just want to reiterate that it is my wish for you for that to happen in some capacity.”

“I’ll keep that in the back of my mind,” Kate smiled as she sipped her drink. “No, I’m wishing that for you. You understand me,” Cohen persisted. No luck, though as Hudson knowingly said “Thank you”.

Hudson has been single since December 2014, when she broke off her three-year engagement to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, with whom she has a son, Bingham.

“Relationships ending are painful, and you can choose to carry that or you can choose to reframe it,” Hudson told Allure about that breakup. “If Matt and I had a great relationship, we would still be together, but we chose to move on because we had different visions of how we wanted to live our lives. That doesn't mean, though, that we can't rebuild something that would be the best thing for the kids.”
