Michael B. Jordan Kate Mara

Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan has spoken out against the internet trolls who have objected to his casting as Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in the upcoming superhero reboot. In an essay published in Entertainment Weekly Jordan gave a clear message to those who object to a black actor being cast in the role.

“You’re not supposed to go on the Internet when you’re cast as a superhero,” Jordan began. “But after taking on Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four—a character originally written with blond hair and blue eyes—I wanted to check the pulse out there.

Forget "True Detective" Season 2, Ellen Page And Kate Mara's Parody Is Where It's At

Kate Mara Ellen Page Vince Vaughn

Ellen Page and Kate Mara are two of Hollywood’s favourite sweethearts, but we love them even more (if that’s even possible) after their True Detective parody for Funny or Die. Possibly inspired by the news from earlier this week that Vince Vaughn and Collin Farrell will be joining the HBO hit, the starlets filmed their own take on the show. It’s called Tiny Detectives and it’s exactly what it sounds like.

Ellen Page
If Ellen Page doesn't star in True Detective, HBO should definitely consider a spinoff, based on Tiny Detective.

The premise: since people were unhappy with the new True Detective cast, HBO have decided to re-cast. But with Page at 5’1’’ and Mara not exactly towering at 5’2’’, their characters have had to take a very… creative approach to detective work. For one, they can’t see the evidence half the time. Also, they sometimes have to sit on magazines to see over the dashboard of their cop car. And I won’t spoil the rest, but you won’t make it past the 1:10 mark without laughing, that’s for sure. Basically, go watch the video right now. You know, just in case you needed a reminder of why these two are awesome. Or if you have an afternoon or so, you could just dive straight into a pit of three-minute comedy videos. No judgement.

Miles Teller Leaves No Stone Unturned With His Four Upcoming Film Projects

Miles Teller J.K Simmons Analeigh Tipton Kate Mara Jamie Bell Michael B. Jordan Shailene Woodley

Miles Teller first gained our attention as hedonistic ladies man Sutter in the 2013 rom-com 'The Spectacular Now', before going on to another comedy love story 'That Awkward Moment' earlier this year. Now, Miles Teller is exploring a range of projects over the coming months.

He was convincing as a rom-com fixture until he played the nasty piece of work Peter in 'Divergent', so now we're pretty sure his versatility renders him unpredictable. One look at his upcoming movie projects and you'd never think they were all starring the same guy.

Transcendence Review

Good

Far too slow-paced to work as a thriller and too shallow to properly challenge us as science fiction, this film is unlikely to please many audience members. That isn't to say that it's unwatchable: it looks terrific, and features a strong cast who are solid in thinly written roles. But the material promises far more than the film delivers.

At the centre is Will (Johnny Depp), an artificial intelligence expert who is attacked by an anti-technology terrorist group. With only weeks to live, his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and his colleague Max (Paul Bettany) upload his consciousness into his computer system, so after he dies he is able to transcend his humanity to solve far-advanced problems. He directs Evelyn to create a vast secret hideout to further develop the work, which progresses for two years until the terrorists, led by Bree (Kate Mara), find them. And now Will's old colleague Joseph (Morgan Freeman) and an FBI agent (Cillian Murphy) have to choose which side they're on.

This is precisely where the script fails: the sides are far too clear from the start. What should be a story packed with moral ambiguity is instead shaped into a straightforward good versus evil drama that betrays screenwriter Jack Paglen's mistrust of technology. And since everything is slanted so sharply, there's nowhere for the story or characters to go. First-time director Wally Pfister (the Oscar-winning Dark Knight cinematographer) makes sure everything look terrific, but everything moves so hesitantly that we feel like we're watching the movie in slow motion. It's as if the film is always on the verge of saying something important, but can never quite get the words out.

Toby Kebbell Fantastic Four Fox Miles Teller Kate Mara Michael B. Jordan Jamie Bell

As we predicted a couple of weeks back now, British actor Toby Kebbell will play villain Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, in Fox's Fantastic Four reboot. The role was being chased by a number of rising stars including Jack Huston, Domhnall Gleeson and Sam Riley though the studio has plumped for arguably the least known of the contenders, according to Variety.

The casting of Kebbell completes a fresh looking cast for the new movie, with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell forming the herpic quartet. The movie starts shooting in the Spring.

Is 'Transcendence' Yet Another Take On The Zombie Apocalypse Thriller?

Johnny Depp Cillian Murphy Kate Mara Morgan Freeman

Like vampires, zombies have enjoyed a renaissance over the past decade or so. The Walking Dead established dominance over the genre on TV after the preceding graphic novel did the same for comic books, while movies like Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later and World War Z all helped mould the genre with different takes on the ‘infected’ and ways to approach them in cinema. Video games, too, have embraced zombies; Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising and DayZ proved popular – The Last of Us took things to the next level.

Transcendence What is he up to...

In Transcendence, Johnny Depp plays a forward thinking scientist on the verge of uploading the human consciousness onto a server, creating a sort of computer intelligence never seen before – it has the potential to be more powerful – intellectually – than the entire history of the human race. His character is shot in the stomach, giving him just weeks to live, prompting his wife to upload his brainwaves. It’s not long before his presence in cyberspace becomes a threat to mankind. So the question is this: is Depp’s new thriller set to add another dimension to the zombie genre?

Transcendence - Alternative Trailer

Computer genius Will Caster is involved in a technological program exploring the world-changing possibilities of artificial intelligence. Their goal is to create a machine that will have knowledge beyond the minds of human beings collectively, while also being able to reach Transcendence; a state in which this artificial mind can begin to feel human emotion. After a particularly enlightening seminar in which the goals of the project in terms of medicine are highlighted, he is shot suddenly. At first it appears that he is going to survive as the bullet didn't hit any major organs, but doctors quickly realise that the attack was much more insidious as it has been laced with radioactive matter. With only weeks to live as research labs across the country are being targeted by a radical anti-technology activist group called RIFT, Caster must find a way to live. When his wife Evelyn manages to upload his consciousness, it seems his project has been fulfilled - but it soon becomes clear that the power he is about to wield will put the world at risk.

The lineup for Fox’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboots is currently being finalized. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is making deals with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell to star in the upcoming Marvel adaptation. Teller, Mara, Jordan and Bell will portray Marvel’s original superheroes – a scientist, his best friend, his girlfriend and her brother, who end up in a freak accident and become Mr. Fantastic, The Thing, Invisible Girl and Human Torch, respectively. They fought aliens and monsters but their arch-foe was Dr. Doom, a onetime roommate of the scientist.

The reboot has been in the works for a while and is currently one of Foxs’s main projects, with the studio planning to release the film on June 19, 2015. The project, which has gone through a fair bit of ups and downs (the movie almost made it to production last fall, before rewrites delayed it, THR reports) now has a script, which was used for a round of read-throughs and screen tests in February.

'House Of Cards' Season 2 Opens With A Shocking Death As Frank Celebrates His Birthday

Kevin Spacey Robin Wright Kate Mara Molly Parker Sandrine Holt Sebastian Arcelus

The opening episode of House of Cards season 2 will definitely go down as one of the most shocking in television history: one of the main characters has been brutally killed off; Claire is desperate for a baby; and Frank celebrates a subdued birthday. If you haven't seen it yet, stop reading now! Spoilers included!

Frank's usual narrative directly to the camera only begins in the last minute and he leaves the audience with a menacing "Welcome Back." This sudden address is almost as shocking as the writer's decision to kill one of the main characters. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) and her journalist friends are attempting to uncover the truth about Congressman Peter Russo's (Corey Stoll) death. They know Frank is somehow connected and Zoe confronts him at a secret meeting in a subway station. Unfortunately for Zoe, Frank will do anything to ensure he's not under suspicion and pushes his former lover in front of a passing train.

Will Caster is a computer scientist researching technology into the possibilities of artificial intelligence. After a gripping seminar where he described his desire to create a machine with not only an intelligence that exceeds human beings collectively, but also experience emotion - a state in which he refers to as Transcendence - he is gunned down by a radical activist who is part of anti-technology group RIFT. With the bullet not penetrating any major organs, the main damage the organization seems to have done is virtually attack research computers in all the main labs of the country, but when it turns out that that bullet was laced with radioactive material, Caster is given just weeks to live. Determined not to die, Caster and his wife Evelyn work out a way to upload his consciousness so that he can communicate even beyond the grave. However, not everybody is so sure of what has happened; a concern which becomes more and more warranted as Carter's mind begins to evolve.

'Transcendence' is the unnerving sci-fi directorial debut of Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister ('The Dark Knight Rises', 'The Italian Job', 'Inception'). Initially written by Jack Paglen (who will be writing 'Prometheus 2'), it has been re-written by Pfister, Jordan Goldberg ('Inception: Motion Comics' TV series) and Alex Paraskevas ('Walker Payne') and is set to be released in the UK on April 25th 2014.

Newly Released "Transcendence" Makes Us Excited To See Johnny Depp On Screen For The First Time In Ages

Johnny Depp Kate Mara Morgan Freeman

Is Johnny Depp back on top form with Trancscendence? So far all we have to go on is the trailer, but at least he’s back in the type of strange and unexpected role he’d built a career on before his recent bout of below-average flicks.

Johnny Depp
There may be hope for Depp's career yet.

The trailers (Warner Bros. released a set of two short teasers yesterday) have a slight 90s feel to them, in that “artificial intelligence is out to rule the human race, now here are some lines of binary flowing across the screen,” but who doesn’t love a bit of 90s nostalgia anyway. We also got a better idea of the story with the full trailer, released yesterday.
