Actress Kate Walsh was left red-faced recently when she halted her new play DUSK RINGS A BELL to chastise a theatregoer for using their cell phone mid-show - because the sound was actually caused by a noisy hearing aid.
The star was delivering a monologue during the off-Broadway show, but refused to continue when she heard beeping noises she assumed was coming from an audience member's Blackberry cell phone.
She explains, "The theatre is really intimate and small. I have six minutes of me talking alone and there's this 'Beep! Beep! Beep!' and I see a Blackberry (flashing) right in the blackout. And I'm like, 'Alright, what's going on, is this a cell phone?' And I'm looking out there. I had to stop the play."
But Walsh was humiliated when she realised she had chastised a theatregoer who was hard of hearing: "I didn't know. I'd never heard it!"
