Kate Winslet's New Drama The Dressmaker Looks Set To Dominate The Australian Version Of The Oscars After Scoring 12 Nominations.
The British star has won a nod for Best Actress ahead of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards, and she will go head-to-head with Charlize Theron, for Mad Max: Fury Road.
The two Hollywood heavyweights will compete with lesser-known stars Ningali Lawford-Wolf (Last Cab to Darwin) and Robyn Butler (Now Add Honey).
The Dressmaker landed nominations for Judy Davis and Sarah Snook, who will both compete for Best Supporting Actress, while Hugo Weaving will vie for Best Supporting Actor, and the film also scored nods for Best Cinematography and Best Editing, among others.
Post-apocalyptic adventure Mad Max: Fury Road could also score big with 11 nominations, and will go head-to-head with The Dressmaker for prizes including Best Direction, with the film's George Miller taking on Jocelyn Moorhouse.
The two movies will also battle it out for the coveted Best Film prize along with Holding The Man, Last Cab To Darwin, and Paper Planes.
Kate Winslet's co-star Sarah Snook, who also appears alongside the actress in new drama Steve Jobs, has also landed a mention in the TV categories, winning a nod for Best Lead Actress In A Television Drama for The Secret River.
The trophies will be handed out at a ceremony in Sydney, Australia on 9 December (15).
