Katherine Heigl Returning To Television, But Why Does She Have One Of Hollywood's Worst Reputations?

Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl is returning to the small screen, as NBC has announced it is picking up her new drama, ‘State of Affairs’ for a full season run. Heigl first made her name on the small screen as Izzie Stevens in 'Grey’s Anatomy,' for which she won a Primetime Emmy award. But by the time Heigl ended her Grey’s run in 2010 it seemed like all the drama was happening for the actress off the screen. Since then a slightly sour reputation has followed Heigl around Hollywood. But where exactly does all the Heigl hating come from?

Katherine HeiglKatherine Heigl is returning to the small screen

Katherine Heigl is undoubtedly a talented and beautiful actress and when she first came to attention as Izzie Stevens on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ it seemed as if she could be Hollywood’s next big leading lady. On The Eve Of The 200th "Grey's Anatomy" Episode, Ellen Pompeo Dishes On Drama, Celebrations And Former Colleagues

Ellen Pompeo Katherine Heigl Patrick Dempsey Sandra Oh Isaiah Washington Chandra Wilson

Drama rules on Grey’s Anatomy – so much so, that quite a lot of it appears to have crossed over from the screen to the actual set, Grey’s star Ellen Pompeo revealed in a recent interview with The New York Post. The Post caught up with Ellen Pompeo and the rest of the Grey’s cast (or what remains of it, at least) on set for the TV drama’s 200th episode, which also happens to be a party – on screen, as well as in real life.

Ellen Pompeo, Grey's Anatomy 200 Episodes Party
Pompeo has tried to steer clear of the drama, surrounding some cast members' departures.

Creator Shonda Rimes, the cast and crew do have a lot to celebrate – over its 200 episodes, Grey’s has become a television staple, up there in the bastion with shows like Friends and CSI: Miami. But success didn’t come without plenty of growing pains, and star Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey on the show, finally let the word out on how and why a lot of the cast drama happened – particularly with Katherine Heigl, who played Dr Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy.

The Big Wedding Review

Good

An all-star cast very nearly goes down with the ship as filmmaker Justin Zackham (The Bucket List) indulges in relentlessly farcical silliness. Thankfully the actors play it relatively straight, injecting moments of dark emotion and sharp wit in between the corny wackiness. But the script is more interested in humiliating its characters than finding any genuine humour.

The eponymous nuptials are between Alejandro and Missy (Barnes and Seyfried), who haplessly watch their families implode as the big day approaches. Alejandro's adoptive dad Don (De Niro) and his long-time girlfriend Bebe (Sarandon) are planning the event, but Alejandro's deeply religious birth-mother (Rae) is coming from Colombia, so he asks his dad to pretend to still be married to his ex-wife Ellie (Keaton). Meanwhile, Alejandro's sister Lyla (Heigl) is having her own marriage crisis, while his brother Jared (Grace) can't keep his libido under control.

As the preparations continue, the plot gets increasingly tangled. But it also becomes strangely ingrown, as if these people have never met anyone outside their small circle of family and friends. Past secrets are revealed and dark peccadillos come to light, leading to a series of manic confrontations. Through it all, the film remains blandly amusing, although its rather extreme moments never quite escalate to Meet the Parents hilarity. Thankfully they avoid the strained goofiness of Death at a Funeral

Is 'This Is 40' Really A Sequel To 'Knocked Up'?

Paul Rudd Judd Apatow Katherine Heigl Seth Rogen Leslie Mann

Judd Apatow returns with his new movie This Is 40 this week, a comedy about the trials of marriage, parenthood and being middle aged and is billed as a 'sort of sequel' to 2007's Knocked Up. The director - who once again teams up with Paul Rudd - discussed the origins of the film with the Los Angeles Times.

"I wasn't thinking about making a sequel," Apatow explained, "I just wanted to do a movie about this age and this time of life, so I started making notes about it. And I was thinking about different actors and actresses who could be in it. And then in the middle of the night I just thought, 'I think I'm writing the sequel to Knocked Up, and it should be Pete and Debbie, and Maude and Iris.' Suddenly it made sense." Knocked Up was a runaway hit, scoring both critical acclaim and commercial success. Though it focused mainly on the relationship between Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl's characters, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann were perhaps the most believable characters. "When I'm writing and when we rehearse, Paul and I will sit with Leslie and [Paul's] wife, Julie, and we'll have the 'What is annoying you about each other?" Apatow said of writing the new film, "and a lot of that makes its way into the movie. So I see it more as a bizarre Frankenstein monster of my worst traits and Paul's worst traits, and then Leslie has to deal with that."

'This Is 40' hits theaters in the U.S. on Friday (December 21, 2012).

The Big Wedding Trailer

Don and Ellie have been divorced for a long time but when their adopted son Alejandro and his fiancé Missy decide to get married, it looks to be time for a family reunion. If things weren't awkward enough with Ellie seeing that her best friend Bebe from years ago is now married to her ex-husband, Alejandro's biological mother has also decided to fly over from Columbia for the occasion. However, she happens to be an extremely devout catholic with the belief that divorce is a sin so the family's only resolution to appease her and make her feel that giving away her son was the right decision is for Don and Ellie to pretend that they are still married on the big day, to Bebe's resentment. As expected, things are not as straight forward as they planned and the days leading up to the nuptials couldn't possibly be more tense and disastrous for this unusual family.

This ridiculous though rather touching comedy has been based on the French movie 'Mon Frère Se Marie' written by Jean-Stéphane Bron and Karine Sudan and is the wonderful story of how broken families can mend or, at least, unite for their mutual relatives when it is a matter of importance. It has been directed and written by Justin Zackham ('Going Greek', 'The Bucket List') and is set to be released on May 31st 2013 in the UK.

Starring: Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, Robin Williams, Ben Barnes, Megan Ketch, Greg Paul, Christa Campbell, David Rasche, Christine Ebersole, Kyle Bornheimer,

New Year's Eve Review

Terrible
The team that made the thin-but-enjoyable Valentine's Day in 2010 reunites for another massively overextended rom-com with a remarkable A-list ensemble. But this time the stories and filmmaking overdose on ill-conceived schmaltz.

As the countdown to 2012 begins, an executive (Swank) is frazzled about a technical glitch in the iconic Time's Square ball-drop. Meanwhile, a courier (Efron) is trying to help a frumpy secretary (Pfeiffer) achieve her dreams. A chef (Heigl) is catering a glittering event while trying to avoid her rock star ex (Bon Jovi), whose back-up singer (Michele) is stuck in a lift with a lovelorn slacker (Kutcher). A mother (Parker) is worried about her teen daughter (Breslin). And a tuxedoed millionaire (Duhamel) is trying to get to an important event in the city.

Video - Daniel Sunjata Wears Velvet Suit - One For The Money New York Premiere Arrivals Part 1

'One for the Money' premiere at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square. Daniel Sunjata, who plays Ranger in the film, wore a velvet suit as he stood next to a large poster advertising the film. Veteran actress Debbie Reynolds looked very much at home on the red carpet and didn't seem to be put off by the photographers. In the film, Debbie plays Grandma Mazur.

The main attraction, though, was Katherine Heigl, who dyed her trademark blonde hair brown to play the heroine, Stephanie Plum. Katherine looked glamorous in a floor length red dress

Caffeine Review

Terrible
Something's always brewing at the Black Cat Café, or so they say. The advertisers behind the new independent film Caffeine want us to believe there's plenty of activity at the quirky London café. Sadly, it's not so. In fact, it's so boring that even a double-shot espresso isn't strong enough to keep to your eyes open.

Caffeine follows a series of odd events during the lunch rush at the Black Cat Café, where one disaster after another is served up as the day's "blue plate special." For example, the cook (Callum Blue) is fired by the manager, Rachel (Marsha Thomason), after she finds out he's been unfaithful to her. Rachel has no one else qualified to cook, so she throws the chef's hat to a server named Tom (Mark Pellegrino), who can't even make lasagna from a written recipe. But Rachel has no other choices. Her two other employees, Vanessa (Mena Suvari) and Dylan (Breckin Meyer) spend more time on smoke breaks then they do serving coffee.
