This is why you don’t use people’s faces without their permission – star of every romantic comedy ever Katherine Heigl is suing drugstore chain Duane Reade Inc. (owned by Walgreen Co.) a tweet, in which they used a photo of her for marketing purposes. The tweet, which at this time is still live on the Duane Reade twitter account reads: “"Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can't resist shopping #NYC's favorite drugstore.” It includes a pap shot of Heigl carrying two large bags with the Duane Reade logo and links to a Just Jared post that notes her visit to the store on March 16.

Katherine Heigl was not a happy camper after Duane Reade used her photo without permission.

It looks like whoever was manning the company Twitter account that day might be in some trouble, however, as the actress has now filed a lawsuit worth $6 million, according to E! News.

The photo was also used on Duane Reade's Facebook account to "imply falsely that Plaintiff endorses Defendant," Heigl's suit charges, quoted by TMZ.

"The Heigl photograph is a typical ‘paparazzi' shot, depicting plaintiff walking on the street in New York City, in a private moment looking away from the camera," the complaint continues, per court documents obtained by the New York Daily News. "Use of plaintiff's image under these circumstances improperly exploited plaintiff's name and likeness, as a celebrity, for defendant's commercial advertising and purposes of trade, without authorization."

Heigl is just one of the celebrities, taking a stand against unauthorised pap shots of late.

The rest of the lawsuit claim sounds like something out of Katherine Heigl’s cover letter (if she ever needed to pen one), noting that “"a highly successful television and motion picture actress, producer and celebrity" who "continues to be in high demand in the entertainment industry," and therefore is due no less than $6 million for the use of her famous name.

In a part of the lawsuit, which has not been quoted, Heigl also allegedly states that she would donate any monetary judgment to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, dedicated to finding loving homes for dogs in need of care.
