Katherine Heigl has been criticised by the British journalist turned chat show host Piers Morgan for suing pharmacy Duane Reade for $6 million after it tweeted out a picture of the actress leaving the store.

The 'Knocked Up' star was snapped leaving a New York branch of the drug store last month, carrying several shopping bags. The photograph was used on the store's Facebook and Twitter page, along with the caption: "Love a quick #DuaneReade run? Even @KatieHeigl can't resist shopping #NYC's favorite drugstore." Heigl is seeking $6 million in compensation.

Morgan linked to the Daily Mail's report on the lawsuit on Thursday, tweeting, "Hi @DuaneReade - unlike @KatieHeigl , I am very happy to be photographed coming out of your excellent stores. And feel free to tweet it."

"One of the most ridiculous lawsuits in showbusiness history. Get over yourself Ms Heigl," he added.

The lawsuit describes Heigl as a "highly successful television and motion picture actress, producer and celebrity" despite the fact that she hasn't had a hit movie or show since 2010. Bizarrely, it adds: "Plaintiff continues to be in high demand in the entertainment industry.a recent search for "Katherine Heigl" on the Google search engine returned over 3.2 million results." It also cites Heigl's 754,000 Twitter followers.

The lawsuit adds that Heigl is "highly selective and well compensated" when she chooses to endorse a product or service, adding, "she did not authorize the store to use her name, picture or image."

"Duane Reade is liable for not less than $6 million in compensatory and punitive or treble damages," it adds.
