Welsh classical singing star Katherine Jenkins has announced that she’s expecting her first child with her husband Andrew Levitas.

On Monday morning (April 13th), the mezzo-soprano made the revelation via Instagram and Twitter, posting an upturned picture of herself and her husband on their wedding day with a tiny pair of pink baby slippers – announcing that they’ll be the proud parents of a baby girl.

“Couldn't be more excited to meet our little girl,” the Neath-born singer wrote, before using a cluster of hashtags, “#MummyToBe #DaddyToBe #ArtProject #Collaboration #Family.”

In a statement made later on in the day, she added “Starting a family and moving into this exciting phase of our lives is a blessing for which we are incredibly grateful,” she added. “We eagerly await the arrival of our little girl.”

In September last year, the 2012 ‘Dancing With The Stars’ contestant married Levitas, an American writer and director, at Hampton Court Palace following a brief engagement.

Soon after the marriage, she spoke about her desire to start a family. Speaking to the Sunday People in November, she said “I do really want a family. Please God, touch wood, we'll be lucky and they'll be fit and healthy. That's all I care about. Having kids is on the list of priorities. We'll see what happens.”

In a separate interview with The Sun's Fabulous magazine, also in 2014, she repeated her desire to have kids but was concerned about striking a balance between family and career. “I really want children. The next question is, ‘How will I make the family dream happen?' I'm looking forward to that and I think that it will be a challenge. I want to be able to put my children first…I think that's really hard to do when you're on the road.”
