Katie Cassidy has spoken for the first time since the death of her father David.

David Cassidy died in hospital on Tuesday at the age of 67 from organ failure, just months after revealing he was battling dementia.

The actress had been estranged from her father in recent years and revealed on Friday, that his poignant last words had been: ‘So much wasted time.’

Katie, 30, tweeted: 'Words cant express the solace our family’s received from all the love & support during this trying time. 'My father’s last words were "So much wasted time."

'This will be a daily reminder for me to share my gratitude with those I love as to never waste another minute… Thank you.’

Katie is David's only child from his short-lived romance with model Sherry Williams and the pair had a complicated relationship.

She was raised by her her mother and stepfather Richard Benedon, but maintained a relationship with her father.

In 2009 David had told People: 'Because I didn’t raise her, I didn’t have to parent her. I’m always here and totally nonjudgmental.’

Katie herself had added: 'To be able to go to someone I’m genetically linked to, tell them anything and know that they’re not going to judge me — it’s unbelievable,' adding, 'it’s nice when your dad can be your friend.'

However in February David told People they were no longer in contact. 'I wasn’t her father. I was her biological father but I didn’t raise her,’ he said.

‘She has a completely different life. I’m proud of her. She’s very talented. It’s hard for me to even accept how old she is now.'

Katie, 31, is an actress, who currently stars in 'Arrow'. She has a half-brother, Beau, from her father’s marriage to Sue Shifrin.
