Katie Couric is launching a new career, and that means her current world is coming to an end. Disney and ABC announced on Thursday (December 29) that they are canceling her syndicated talk show Katie.

The network said the cancellation was agreed on by both Disney and Couric, according to Reuters.

"While production will continue on Katie through June 2014, we've mutually agreed that there will not be a third season of the show," ABC said in a statement to Deadline.com.

Couric previously announced she will be joining Yahoo to help the online network with their world news coverage. The veteran journalist can probably do anything she wants at this point in her career, but is joining the Marissa Mayer-run online brand. She cohosted Today on NBC for years, before leaving for the nightly news on CBS in 2006.

When Couric announced she was joining Yahoo, the cancellation of her show was expected. While ratings have not been bad, the price tag for Katie is reportedly upwards of $30 or $40 million a year. The show has also reportedly been struggling with its identity. Couric has always wanted to be a serious journalist, and she is trying to do that on this show while also being an entertainment program (something she also struggled with on Today.)

Couric's job with Yahoo starts in January, and she will continue to focus on both positions until Katie wraps in June.

"We’re very proud of everyone's contributions to making Katie the #1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013," the statement continued, "and we look forward to the rest of the season."
