Dolly Parton has announced that she is to perform a duet with pop megastar Katy Perry at next month’s Country Music Awards.

The 51st edition of the annual country music ceremony is being broadcast live from Las Vegas on the evening of Sunday April 3rd, hosted by Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan. As well as performances from Grammy Award-nominated Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood, the legendary Parton will be teaming up with somebody from the world of pop.

“She got the big idea, 'Why don't we sing 'Jolene' together?' Because she loves that song and since it's going to be one of the [television] movies I go, 'Yeah, why not?’” the 70 year old star told Rolling Stone. “So I'm going to try to combine 'Coat of Many Colors' and 'Jolene.'"

It’s set to be a big awards ceremony for Parton in another way, with her official website announcing on Monday (March 21st) that her work on the biographical movie Coat of Many Colors, which detailed Parton’s childhood in the 1950s, is to receive the Tex Ritter Award. It is given each year to a film that has prominently featured country music.

“To be up there with the great stories like Coal Miner's Daughter and O Brother Where Art Thou? and Walk The Line, it's like you say, 'Wow, all those were feature films’, and this one was just a movie of the week on television,” she said about the NBC TV special, which premiered in December last year to record audiences.

Parton was the narrator of the successful project, as well one of the executive producers. Fittingly, she is to receive the award from Perry herself.
