Singer Katy Perry has played down reports suggesting she's set to portray the girlfriend of flamboyant rocker Freddie Mercury in Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming biopic.
The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker has previously showed off her acting chops on U.S. TV comedy How I Met Your Mother, and she also voiced the Smurfette character in 2011's big screen adaptation of The Smurfs.
Earlier this year (12), reports suggested Perry was being lined up to play Mary Austen opposite comedian Cohen, who has signed on to play the Queen frontman - and although she admits she would love to tackle the role, she insists speculation about her involvement in the planned project is premature.
The pop star tells Eonline.com, "There's something about the Internet that's sort of funny - it's that nothing is true on there. There's been no formal offer. Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious."
Perry has long credited Mercury as one of her biggest music influences and even dressed up as the late rocker to celebrate her 24th birthday.
