Lionsgate has confirmed a sequel to 2014's critically acclaimed revenge thriller John Wick, with Keanu Reeves returning to avenge more puppies. David Leitch and Chad Stahelski will return as directors with Derek Kolstad returning as screenwriter.

"With such tremendous fan and critical support for 'John Wick,' we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell," said Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. "We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around."

John Wick starred Reeves as a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the killing of his Beagle puppy, a gift from his recently deceased wife. Produced for just $20 million, it earned more than $78 million at the worldwide box-office.

"Just when you have all but given up hope for Keanu Reeves... there comes the hyper-stylised revenge movie John Wick. And you remember what you loved about him in the first place," said Wendy Ide in her review for The Times.

"In the follow up to last year's adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller," reads the sequel's plot synopsis, "legendary hit man John Wick is back."

There's no word on a release date yet, though Lionsgate will be touting the international distribution rights at Cannes later this year. Meanwhile, Reeves is about to shoot the romance movie The Bad Batch with Jim Carrey and Jason Momoa.
