The attention was on Kellie Pickler's shaved head at the CMA awards last night, as the 26-year-old country star attended the awards following a head-shave in September.

Now in November, it wasn't quite 'shaved', more like a spikey style, but it wasn't fashion that lead her to lop off her tresses. She did it to show solidarity to a lifelong pal diagnosed with breast cancer, and has no regrets about shearing off her platinum blond locks. "It's growing back!" she told E! News, before explaining that she "[gets] to sleep in a little longer" due to the lack of styling needed. In shaving her head, she "wanted to encourage early detection, [and women to] go to your checkups!" she added. "Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler said at the time, reports People. "If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it." Now that's solidarity!

Picker, who was born in New Orleans, was a contestant on the fifth season of the Fox reality show American Idol, eventually finishing in sixth place. Since leaving the show, she has forged a successful TV and singing career, with three full studio albums; Small Town Girl, Kellie Pickler and 100 Proof. Though a CMT winner previously, winning Breakthrough Video, Tearjerker and Performance of the year in 2008, she was unsuccessful in her nominated categories last night - Female Video of The Year, and Female Country Artist.
