Childhood: Kerry Washington was born in the Bronx, New York City, to Valerie and Earl Washington. As a child, she studied at the all-girls Spence School in Manhattan, while also attending the TADA! Youth Theatre as a teenager. She later studied anthropology and sociology at George Washington University in Washington D.C. and later at the performing arts studio, Michael Howard Studios in New York City.
Career: Washington made her screen debut in the ABC television film, 'Magical Make-Out' in 1994 as part of the ABC After School specials series. In 2000, she made her feature film debut in the movie, 'Our Song'. She then appeared in 'Save the Last Dance' the following year, 'Bad Company' in 2002, and 'The Human Stain' in 2003. 2004 saw her in her first leading role in the Spike Lee film, 'She Hate Me'.
