Kesha

Biography

Kesha (born March 1st 1987) is a pop singer best known for hits such as 'Tik Tok', 'Die Young' and appearing on Pitbull's 'Timber'.

Net Worth: Kesha has a net worth of $40 million according to Celebrity Net Worth (2015).

Childhood: Kesha was born in LA with her singer mother Pebe. They had little money and she didn't know the identity of her father. She moved to Nashville as a child and discovered her own love of music, though admits she struggled to fit in at school where she joined the marching band. She went to Franklin High School and Brentwood High School while co-writing demos with her mother. She is a global ambassador for animal rights organisation the Humane Society of the United States.

Career: At 16, Kesha and her mother's song 'Stephen' was produced by David Gamson and soon after she left school for the music industry on the advice of Dr. Luke and Max Martin. In 2005, she and her mother later took part in a reality series called 'The Simple Life' in which their house played host to Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. That year she signed to Dr. Luke's label Kemosabe Entertainment with one of her first professional ventures being featuring on Paris Hilton's 'Nothing in This World'. She later signed to DAS Communications Inc., during which time she co-wrote The Veronicas single 'This Love' and made her living as a waitress. In 2008, she was in Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl' video and appeared in Britney Spears' 'Lace and Leather' song. Her breakthrough came with featuring on Flo Rida's 2009 single 'Right Round'. That year she signed to RCA Records and in 2010 she released her number one debut album 'Animal' which featured the singles 'Tik Tok', 'Your Love Is My Drug' and 'Blah Blah Blah' feat. 3OH!3. The song broke the record for biggest one week sales and was at number one for nine weeks. A lawsuit was later filed against her by DAS Communications Inc., who wanted $14 million from her and $12 million from producer Dr. Luke for commissions, suggesting that she was still affiliated with them. She failed a lawsuit against them in return, claiming that it was an unlicensed agent who had her signed to DAS. In 2010, she also joined Rihanna on her Last Girl On Earth Tour and released her Gold certified EP 'Cannibal' featuring the number one hit 'We R Who We R'. Her first headline world tour was entitled 'Get Sleazy' and kicked off in 2011. That year, Alice Cooper invited her to work on a track entitled 'What Baby Wants'. In 2012, she released her second album 'Warrior' featuring the singles 'Die Young' and 'C'Mon', though she began to underperform in the charts. She hit the road again for her 'Warrior' tour alongside Pitbull. During this time she released a visual autobiography entitled 'My Crazy Beautiful Life', which was later turned into a documentary. In 2013, fans began to get angry over Kesha's lack of control over her music, with Dr. Luke being at the helm of 'Warrior' - especially as her chart performance began to drop. However, he later produced Pitbull and Kesha's song 'Timber' which became a number one hit.

Personal Life: In 2014, Kesha underwent treatment in rehab for bulimia nervosa - a condition which allegedly arose out of Dr. Luke's comments about her weight. That year she sued the producer for a string of offences such as sexual assault and harassment and asked for their contract to be broken. He launched his own lawsuit against her for defamation.

A New York appeals court has rejected the latest attempt by beleaguered pop star Kesha to get out of her contract with Lukasz Gottwald, known professionally as producer Dr. Luke.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a New York judge ruled on Tuesday (May 29th) to uphold a previous decision made by another court in 2017 which denied Kesha’s attempts to break free of her contracts with Gottwald and his Kemosabe label.

Pink Describes Sexual Assault Allegations Against Dr. Luke As "Karma"

Pink Kesha

Pink has waded into the ongoing legal drama between fellow pop star Kesha and her former producer Dr. Luke, whom she accuses of sexual assault.

The returning star, who announced her new album Beautiful Trauma recently, was profiled by the New York Times in an article published on Thursday (October 5th). One of the topics that came up was the abuse claims brought by Kesha against Dr. Luke, and while she of course couldn’t speak to the validity of the claims, Pink does consider them to be “karma” because Dr. Luke is “not a good person”.

“I don't know what happened,” Pink said about Kesha’s allegations that he sexually assaulted her in 2014. “But I know that regardless of whether or not Dr. Luke did that, this is his karma and he earned it because he's not a good person.”

“And I was like, 'Oh, my God, what if they walk outside and see this food in a bush? Or they see it in the garbage can?' And I just had all this mounting anxiety,” she said, and realised that she couldn’t go on like that.

Dr. Luke's Departure From Sony Isn't All Good For Kesha

Dr Luke Kesha

As Kesha's case against her former producer Dr. Luke continues, it is revealed that the latter is no longer an affiliate of Sony or its subsidiary label Kemosabe Records. It is unknown whether this is solely down to the Kesha case, or whether their separation had been imminent for other reasons.
