Kevin Bacon was so excited about taking his newborn son home from hospital, he locked the baby in his car.

The 'Cop Car' actor and wife Kyra Sedgwick were left ''panicked'' when they accidentally left Travis, now 26, on the backseat of their Nissan Pathfinder with the keys in the ignition and the engine running.

He recalled: ''My son was born in a hospital in LA.

''We were living in New York at the time, and we brought him home from the hospital to the hotel, and he was, like, four days old, something like that.

''My wife and I had him in the car seat in back, and we both jumped out of the car, and we left the keys in the car - with the doors locked and the engine running. And, obviously, we panicked.''

The 56-year-old actor - who also has daughter Sosie, 23, with Kyra - was relieved when a parking attendant quickly came to their aid.

He added to The Drive: ''In, like, five seconds, the garage attendant put something around his fist, punched the window right out, reached in and opened the door. Needless to say, we were grateful.''

And to this day, Kevin still feels ''gratitude'' for Travis' rescuer.

He said: ''The guy still works there. I still see him there. And whenever I do, I still recall that, with gratitude.''
