Michael Shannon And Kevin Spacey Bond As Elvis & Nixon

Michael Shannon Kevin Spacey

Inspired by an iconic photograph of Nixon shaking Presley's hand and appointing him as an honorary federal drug-enforcement agent, the screenwriter spun the meeting into a full-on screwball comedy. Kevin Spacey plays Nixon in the film, and notes that "while this was such a famous meeting, it wasn't recorded. So in a way it allowed us, and certainly the screenwriter, to be able to imagine what a lot of this conversation was. First-hand witnesses were helpful in terms of snippets, but I think it was expanded. And that's sort of the fun of it, that we could imagine it."

Elvis & Nixon is based on a true story

Michael Shannon plays Presley in the movie, and Spacey says that both actors decided not to do impersonations on-screen. "These are two figures who, obviously, people know," Spacey says. "There's so much public stuff but not that much private stuff, so we tried to find an essence of each of these figures and then allow them to respond to each other genuinely. I think what was most interesting was the fact that these two people you wouldn't think would have anything in common actually, at the end of this meeting, had sort of an appreciation for each other."

Guy Pearce Was Almost Too Hot To Get Hired

Guy Pearce Stephan Elliott Russell Crowe Kevin Spacey Cobie Smulders

Of all the possible reasons why an actor might receive a "no" when auditioning for a part in the cut-throat world of movies, being "too handsome" must rank among the best of them. But that's exactly the fate that almost befell Guy Pearce before he won the part of Adam Whitely/Felicia Jollygoodfellow in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Director Stephan Elliott recently told The Herald Sun that he had reservations about Pearce starring in the 1994 comedy-drama, which follows the adventures of three drag queens, because the young Guy was just so darn good looking:

Chill Out Guys: Netflix Ain't Getting Adverts, Yet

It's no secret that Netflix is experimenting with advertising on its service, though rumors on the internet this week that users will now be met with pre-roll and post-roll advertisements when watching House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, et al, appeared to be severely exaggerated.

Some analysts have pushed the company to introduce lucrative ads, though in a statement to Mashable this week, the streaming service played down the prospect.

Everything Is Ten Times More Stressful In The New "House Of Cards Trailer"

Kevin Spacey Netflix

Attention: there’s a new trailer out for House of Cards Season 3. As such, we must observe and discuss. The clip is a rather stress-inducing piece of promo, with an industrial musical theme vaguely reminiscent of early Nine Inch Nails playing in the background as the drama unfolds.

Horrible Bosses 2 Review

OK

Like The Hangover, Horrible Bosses was a movie no one really wanted to see a sequel to, but here it is anyway: the same film, but even more inane. It is also likely to make plenty of money from audiences looking for mindless entertainment on a Saturday night. Although "mindless" seems almost complimentary when a movie is as idiotic as this one is. There's so little to its plot that the whole film seems to evaporate before the end of the climactic chase scene.

It's been a couple of years since Nick, Kurt and Dale (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day) tried to solve their problems by trying to kill their bosses. Instead, they've become inventors, and have just sold their Shower Buddy to a popular catalogue company owned by Bert (Christoph Waltz). They go all out to fill his order, putting their necks on the line, and Bert leaves them hanging there. Faced with the prospect of losing everything, they again consult their criminal pal Jones (Jamie Foxx), who helps them launch a "kidnaping". The idea is to grab Bert's son Rex (Chris Pine) and demand a ransom to cover their debts. But Rex takes over the operation, asking for a lot more cash and causing a lot more chaos. They also run into a couple of their old bosses: sex-crazed Julia (Jennifer Aniston) is still determined to sleep with Dale, while Harken (Kevin Spacey) can still freak them out from behind bars.

Director-writer Anders and cowriter Morris use almost the exact same formula this time, going for laughs in a carefully plotted caper in which everything that can go wrong does. Although instead of merely being inept, these people are all morons. Bateman's Nick is essentially the straight man in the movie, and even he fails to notice that they've borrowed and spent a vast sum of cash without even a simple contract with Bert. Meanwhile, Kurt and Dale are mind-achingly stupid, bungling every single moment so completely that it's hard to see them as functioning adults. Pine isn't much better, but at least we haven't seen this schtick from him before, and he's rather good at it.

Despite Emmy Snub, The Future Is Bright For Netflix (Starting With Gervais Ad)

Ricky Gervais Kevin Spacey Netflix

Netflix probably didn't have any deserved winners of major Emmy awards on Monday night (August 25, 2014). 'House of Cards' - which is fast becoming pure, unadulterated fun more than anything else - was never going to beat 'Breaking Bad' in the outstanding drama category and although 'Modern Family' was the surprise winner of best comedy, 'Orange is the New Black' still had to beat the far superior 'Veep'. Still, it must have felt like two steps back for executives at the streaming service, which has poured cash into quality original content in recent years.

Nevertheless, the future is bright for Netflix and a glossy new ad featuring Ricky Gervais confirms just how far the service has grown to effectively become ingrained in modern culture. Now under three new bosses that are equally mean, they decide that they want to start up their own business so that they don't have to take orders from superiors ever again. Everything seems to be in place until a cunning investor forces them to lose control of their entrepreneurial plans. With no legal standing and no money, the trio turn to their trusty crime consultant who suggests they start to be a little more ruthless if they want to pull off their latest scheme; to kidnap the investor's son and hold him for ransom. Nick, Dale and Kurt are hoping that everything will go to plan this time - but that's looking unlikely.

Here's Why Kevin Spacey Absolutely MUST Be The Next Bond Villain

Kevin Spacey Sam Mendes

Kevin Spacey fans were sincerely disappointed to hear that the actor wouldn’t be appearing as the villain in the next James Bond movie, which is due to be released in 2015. Spacey explained to BBC news: “I don’t know why people keep writing about this. I’ve been offered no role, I’ve never read a script, no, I am not doing the next James Bond movie.” He added, “I don’t know who started the rumour but stop it.”

Well, actually, it seems as though he started the rumour himself, back in 2012. When it was suggested that he would be up for the role of Bond villain, he told the Evening Standard: “I would hope [Bond producers] the Broccolis agree [that I would make a good Bond villain] and that Sam [Mendes] is going to do the next one. That would be a lot of fun. I adore him. I had some of the most seminal experiences of my career with him, both a decade ago with American Beauty and last year with Richard III.”

Kevin Spacey has a new party trick, he does impressions of his indefatigable, uncompromising and rutless character on 'House of Cards,' Frank Underwood who – and look away if you don’t want to know what happens – becomes President of The United states via a regimented diet of backstabbing, conniving plans, murder and weird threesomes.

Mindy Kaling And The Stupidest Red Carpet Questions, Ever

Mindy Kaling Kevin Spacey Woody Allen

“Who are you wearing?”, “Are you excited to be here?”, “Do you want to win?” are just a few of the inane questions that get yelled at the stars as they walk down the red carpet. But every now and then a question gets asked that is so mind-blowingly idiotic, or eyebrow-raisingly nonsensical that you just have to ask, how are these people allowed within 100 feet of celebrities? And more to the point, who thought it was a good idea to give them a microphone and put them on the television? Usually the answer is E! news.

mindy kaling red carpet Mindy was asked to specify what race she found attractive

For instance, E! news correspondent Alicia Quarles recently asked The Mindy Project star Mindy Kaling what race of guys she likes. Yes, you read that right. “Who’s your type?” she asked Kaling, who seemed confused by the question. “Good looking?”, Kaling responded with the quizzical intonation of someone who is confounded. This wasn’t enough for Quarles though, who continued “So, any colour?”. It’s more than a little intrusive to begin with to ask the star what kind of men she likes, but to demand a race be included in her bizarre interrogation is just too much.

Obama Watches 'House Of Cards' And 'True Detective', Think About What That Means.

Barack Obama Kevin Spacey

Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th President of The United States of America was a tremendous stepping-stone for the western world; a black man in charge of the free world - it was exhilarating. His reputation hasn’t remained entirely unblemished, though, and with a string of political controversies plaguing his tenure at the oval office, opinion isn’t so rosy any more.

ObamaObama is really into his highly rated TV

One of Obama’s integral selling points to voters is his communication with young people. He was supported by the likes of Matt Damon and Jay-Z in his election campaign back in 2008, and before his win in 2009 to become America’s first black president, the youth were firmly behind him.

All of this; everything I’ve just said, means nothing because Barack Obama watches 'House of Cards' and 'True Detective' – my two favourite things at the moment. Just think – for a second – think about what that means.

It means someone, somewhere, sorted out a Netflix account for Mr. Obama

There’s no way Obama logged on to Netflix, typed his card details and started a free one-month trial with Netflix. Some spotty assistant did it, and knows the details. They’re probably [email protected], and the password is probably democraticz. Just imagine that.

It means Obama watches Kevin Spacey manipulate the political landscape, and finds it entertaining

Obama loves House of Cards. He Tweeted out telling people not to spoil it as Netflix put whole seasons of their original content at once. We’re obviously choosing to ignore the fact that Obama probably did this as a publicity stunt to maintain the vote of the youth – old people don’t even know what House of Cards is, so ignore it and assume he’s talking about a book.
