'Fear The Walking Dead' has had a pretty turbulent time since its conception, slammed by some fans of original series 'The Walking Dead' as an attempt to milk the franchise for all it's worth, despite 'Fear' immediately chalking out its own unique identity.'Fear The Walking Dead' Returns For A Third Season Later This Year'Fear The Walking Dead' Returns Later This Year For Season 3

The story kicked off right at the start of the zombie apocalypse, following an original group of characters as they went from relatively normal family lives to survivors in a world like nobody had ever seen before.

Despite that, 'Fear' has managed to survive and, following its second season run last year it finished as the #12 show on TV within its demographic in America, according to stats from Nielsen.

One of the people that has helped the show see so much success is original showrunner, David Erickson. Working with the 'Fear' cast and crew throughout three seasons now, it's officially been announced that he'll be leaving the series, making room for a new showrunner to step in from season 4 and beyond.

Network executive Joel Stillerman said of Erickson (according to Variety): "We're beyond grateful for Dave's amazing work on the first three seasons of 'Fear The Walking Dead'. With Dave as showrunner, the series fulfilled its creative promise to expand the 'Walking Dead' universe in a way that was totally unique from the original series, and has gone on to become the number two drama series in ad-supported cable, behind only 'The Walking Dead'. We are also incredibly excited that Dave has chosen to stay in the AMC family to pursue his next passion project. We look forward to many more successful collaborations."

Erickson himself added: "I have truly enjoyed working with the writers and directors, cast and crew on 'Fear' and am so proud of what we have accomplished over our first two seasons. I look forward to completing work on season three, sharing it with the fans and developing new projects with my partners at AMC."

Though it's clear the relationship between Erickson and the AMC network is one that still remains strong, there are no hints just yet as to what his next project with the channel will be. The network is known for such dramas as 'Better Call Saul', 'Preacher' and 'Hell on Wheels', but what Erickson will be working on could be something new entirely.
