Kim Wilde Reveals UFO Encounter Inspired Her New Album

Kim Wilde

Eighties pop icon Kim Wilde has revealed the bizarre reason behind her recent musical comeback, saying that it was an alien encounter in her back garden that inspired her to make her new album.

Appearing in front of what was, to say the least, a sceptical panel on ‘Loose Women’ on Monday afternoon (March 12th), the 57 year old singer spoke about the inspiration behind her rather appropriately titled new album, Here Come the Aliens, which is being released next week.

“It was in 2009 and I was in my garden with my husband and a girlfriend of mine,” she told the show. “We saw some helicopters and a bright light come towards us from the South West. We looked of course, expecting to see they were after someone. That didn’t happen, the helicopters left. I think they were scrambling to try and find what this thing was.”

Kim Wilde And Tony Hadley Perform World's Highest Gig

Kim Wilde Tony Hadley

Kim Wilde and Tony Hadley didn’t have much in common, apart from the fact that they were both pop stars in the 1980’s, however they can now add another bond between them – the pair have just set the record for the highest ever gig!

Now before you start sniggering and asking whether Snoop Dogg was performing that with them, we should point out that this was literally the highest gig. They performed it in a jumbo jet, and they achieved it with a host of other, um, stars, including Bananarama and Go West. Performing at 42,080 feet, they performed a 22 and a half minute set with musical instruments. Wilde played ‘You Came,’ ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’ and her biggest hit ‘Kids In America’, whilst Hadley performed ‘True,’ ‘Gold’ and a cover of Queen’s ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’. As NME pointed out, Wilde’s been popping up quite regularly on public transport to perform shows, having played a gig on a tube at the end of last year.

In a statement, Wilde said "I'm becoming an old hand at performing on public transport, in fact I'm getting a bit of a taste for it, so when British Airways asked me to play at 43,000ft I simply couldn't resist. It was great fun and I'm proud to have been a part of it."

Video Gone Viral: A Drunk Kim Wilde Gets Festive On London Underground

Kim Wilde Mel Smith

It’s been a long while since Kim Wilde’s been in the headlines and – whilst it probably wasn’t quite the career revival she may have been planning, she found herself at the centre of attention again, after a video of her drunken tube performance of ‘Kids In America’ went viral after it was posted on YouTube.

Looking a little worse for wear, this probably wasn’t the most – ahem – ‘musically accurate’ rendition of the song that Kim has ever performed but she and her brother Ricky Wilde still gave the late night London travellers something to enjoy as they ran through a seemingly endless version of the song. It’s a good job that Kim was travelling a few stops on the tube, because she simply did not seem to want to let go of that song, dragging it out for a few extra bars even after Ricky had stopped.

Then came an extra little treat, as Kim rescued her reindeer antlers from her head and decided to break into the Christmas song that she released with Mel Smith for Comic Relief back in 1987. As she sauntered up the train carriage, at least one other person joined in, singing the song, though it appeared that the majority of the passengers either didn’t know who she was or simply didn’t care. We’d like to congratulate Kim and Ricky for bringing a little festive cheer to the London Underground. We’d also like to congratulate Kim for overcoming her inebriation to remember most of the words to the songs. And Ricky deserves props for managing to stay upright on the moving tube train, whilst he played his guitar!

Kim Wilde's Drunken Rendition Of 'Kids In America' Takes Internet My Storm

Kim Wilde

We all love a little sing-song on our way home from the pub or a night out, and Kim Wilde proved that the rich and famous are no different to to us average Joes when it comes to this when she stunned commuters with a rendition of 'Kids In America' on the tube home from a Christmas do.

A very inebriated Kim, with the help of her brother Ricky on guitar and backing vocals, broke into a version of her 1981 hit to injected some Christmas (or maybe just 80's) cheer into the journey of the London commuters whilst on her way home from the Magic FM Christmas Party, with the antics being filmed by one of the passengers onboard. According to one passenger on the busy carriage, Kim told the fans that, as it's Christmas, she will perform a Christmas song for them, before starting off a rendition of 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.'

She went on to say, after her first performance of the night was over, "I know we are all sitting on a crowded train here, ignoring each other like me normally do. We're just looking down into our phone and stuff, but hey - it's a Christmas thing!" If it wasn't her rousing speech that did it then the prospect of being able to sing a bona-fied classic with the original singer proved too much for some people as the usually dour carriages of the underground actually had some smiley, moving people on board - and if that's not a Christmas miracle, then I don't know what is.

Kim Wilde's Drunken Tube Sing Song Becomes Internet Sensation (Video)

Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde stunned commuters on a London tube train this week with an inebriated rendition of her hit song 'Kids in America'. Wearing a pair of glittery reindeer ears, Wilde launched into her 1981 track with brother Ricky on guitar and backing vocals.

According to The Guardian, the singer was on her way home from the Magic FM Christmas Party and was filmed by one of the passengers on the busy carriage. "Everyone, it's Christmas time, and I'm going to sing you a Christmas song," she said, before starting a rendition of 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'. Many passengers kept their eyes firmly fixed on the middle distance, though Wilde continued, "I know we are all sitting on a crowded train here, ignoring each other like me normally do. We're just looking down into our phone and stuff, but hey - it's a Christmas thing!" However, Kids in America proved irresistible to some passengers who at least managed to crack a smile.

Though she was the star of the show, Wilde was seemingly paying for her drunken antics the following morning, tweeting, "Just coming round after @Magic/Kiss party, assisted by a bacon and egg sarnie ;)" By Friday afternoon, Wilde was trending on Twitter and told followers, "Truly, I am overwhelmed and confused at such a huge reaction to my night out on the tiles. Making me giggle a LOT: )"

Christmas Cheer On Public Transport With Kim Wilde's Impromptu Performance

Kim Wilde

Remember Kim Wilde? Well, the aging pop star is still around and reminded everyone of her existence in a big way today, with an impromptu performance of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Kids in America on the tube.

The amateur youtube video shows brother Ricky bursting into a guitar instrumental and Kim, perhaps having had one too many eggnogs, joining in not long after. According to the video info, the recording was made on the underground after the MagicFM Christmas Party. The improvised gig may have been far from a packed Wembley stadium, but in looks like a good time nevertheless. While the quality of the musical performance itself is dubious to say the least, it sure works in spreading some seasonal cheer. And really, what else could you ask for from an acoustic session on public transport? Maybe this will actually be good promotion for Kim, who is in the midst of working on a new album to be released in 2013. Who would have guessed, right? The musically inclined family includes Kim and Ricky, their sister Roxanne and father Marty Wilde and members of the Wilde clan have been on and off the stage since the late 50s. It’s no wonder then that music is just bursting out of them at this point.

Check the video about below.
