Fact: Tony Award-winning director John Rando has dropped out of plans to take a musical version of King Kong to Broadway due to timing issues. Producer Carmen Pavlovic is aiming to stage the production, which enjoyed a premiere run in Australia last year (13), on the Great White Way in 2015. Rando, who won acclaim for Urinetown: The Musical in 2002, is already due to take charge of another big musical, The Honeymooners, next year (15).

Fact: Thor star Tom Hiddleston has landed the lead role in King Kong prequel Skull Island. The Brit will team up with filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who made his directorial debut last year (13) with indie hit The Kings of Summer, for the project.

Fact: The original PSYCHO and King Kong have been chosen among the Best Reviewed Horror Movies in a new online poll. The films join Rosemary's Baby, Shaun Of The Dead and The Devil's Backbone in the top five of the RottenTomatoes.com survey.
