KJ Apa and Cole Sprouse promise big things for this year's 'Riverdale' season 2 finale.
Based on the Archie Comics series, but bringing an incredibly dark tone to proceedings is 'Riverdale'; a brilliant television show that kicked off in 2016 and has already managed to develop and evolve throughout its run of almost two full seasons to-date. A bunch of unique characters played by talented stars make up the show's cast, and audiences have been addicted to watching their adventures transpire.

Season 2 has really ramped up proceedings, with criminal gangs and one evil Black Hood raining down chaos on the unlucky town. So how exactly will everything be wrapped up? Though the majority of Riverdale's residents think the Black Hood has been captured, viewers know that this isn't the case, and the real killer is still out there, planning out his next move. We imagine his true identity will be shown before all is said and done.

'Riverdale' season 2 is darker than ever, and with the Black Hood's return looming, things aren't going well for the town's residents.
The CW shocked the world when they said they would be adapting Archie Comics into a television series called 'Riverdale', kicking things off with the murder of one of the town's school kids and developing the property into one of television's darkest offerings. Bringing the likes of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) to the small screen, audiences fell in love with the roster of compelling characters and their intriguing stories.

With just six episodes to go until the end of the show's second season, a lot of drama and chaos is to be wrapped up across the next couple of months. Exactly how everything goes down remains to be seen, but showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has promised the return of one villainous figure - the Black Hood. Archie has never been confident that there's more to the Black Hood mystery than was shown earlier on in the season, and it would appear he's right.

Could we be seeing more of Dark Betty in the future?
'Riverdale' may currently be on a break, but that hasn't stopped fans from wondering exactly what will happen when the show makes its return at the beginning of next year. We left things off with the apparent reveal of the Black Hood - though we're not entirely convinced that the unmasking was of the true criminal behind the slayings and attempted murders in the town - and saw Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) refuse to burn her own black hood, gifted to her by the criminal at the end of the first part of season 2.

Betty has always been a mysterious character, showcasing her dark side with her Dark Betty persona in the show's first season, with consistent teases that she could return to this alter-ego at some point in the near future. Exactly what that means for her upcoming story arcs remains to be seen, but Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who works on the series has been giving a little bit of a hint as to what we should expect.
KJ Apa and Madelaine Petsch chat about the series' darkest storyline to-date.
Following the huge success of 'Riverdale's first season, it didn't take much convincing for American television network The CW to pick up the show for another run, this time extending its episode count and allowing the storylines included to be darker than ever before. Closing with a cliffhanger that saw Archie Andrews' (KJ Apa) father shot by a mystery assailant in a black hood, it became clear that the drama in Riverdale wasn't going to slow down anytime soon.
Madelaine Petsch says she didn't guess who was behind the Black Hood
Over the past few weeks, viewers have seen the Black Hood working alongside Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), forcing her to break friendships and even give the name of somebody that should be murdered. Now though, she's promised to do her best in taking the Black Hood down and unmasking them as soon as possible.

The show will be enjoying some major shifts in tone upon its return.
When 'Riverdale' made its debut on The CW earlier this year, not many could have predicted how big a success it would become. Telling the story that surrounded the mysterious death of teenager Jason Blossom, and delving deeply into the backgrounds of all those who were at one point suspected of taking his life, the show flipped the Archie Comics book series which it was based on, completely on their head. It was a different approach than the one the majority had expected, but a welcome one.
There won't be many smiles for Archie and Betty in 'Riverdale' season 2
With a talented cast of young actors fronting the show - including KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper and Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge - viewers were drawn right into the drama and instantly felt a part of the 'Riverdale' story. There were those who even compared the direction it was going in to that of the original 'Twin Peaks' series.

At the beginning of this year, The CW brought their new series 'Riverdale' - based on the long-running Archie Comics series - to the small screen. Not many people knew what to expect outside of the teasers that had been revealed, but when the show kicked into high gear after just a couple of episodes, it was clear that it would become a huge success.

The show's first season wasn't always going to close out the way it did.
'Riverdale' is without a doubt one of this year's most successful new small screen properties. Enjoying a much talked about first season, it's already gone into production with a second on the way later this year, returning much sooner than anybody had expected.
KJ Apa led the CW show as Archie
Following characters based on those that were first introduced in the Archie Comics universe, the series is a lot darker than anybody would have imagined, with one of the students at Riverdale High murdered, execution style with a shot to the head.

The actor isn't afraid to give his performance his all.
When it was announced a series was coming to The CW based on the characters from the long-running Archie Comics books, not many people could have guessed the direction in which the show has now taken. Opening up a murder mystery tale that has been compared to the likes of 'Twin Peaks' in its first season, it's fair to say that the TV show has branched far out from its source material, bringing a darker look at the town of Riverdale to fans.
