Weird Music Story Of The Week: A Baby Was Accidentally Named "Korn"

Korn

Making spelling mistakes on your baby's birth certificate is something we all try to avoid, but occasionally it does happen. What doesn't happen too often though is accidentally naming your baby after a nu metal band. Like Korn, for example.

It was a happy day on April 10th for new Seattle mum Kelsey Tate when she welcomed her baby daughter into the world, but things took a bit of a strange turn when she realised that her child's name was listed as "Korn" in official hospital documents.

Weekly Music Highlights: Musicians Band Together For Nashville, Coronavirus Cancels SXSW And Genesis Announce Comeback Tour

South by Southwest Taylor Swift Katy Perry Amy Winehouse Justin Bieber Korn Riz Ahmed The Weeknd Genesis Tenacious D

The coronavirus seems to be affecting every area of our lives including music at the moment, so we've decided to give it its own section in our Weekly Music Highlights. Along with the Nashville tornado disaster and Riz Ahmed's Brexit truths, we hope music will be a way to bring us together in these tough times.

Music News

The home of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, was struck by four tornadoes on Tuesday (March 3rd) killing 25 people and destroying numerous buildings and homes. Today a benefit gig under the name 'To Nashville, With Love' will take place at the Marathon Music Works, with acts such as Soccer Mommy, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile, Dan Auerbach and more set to perform. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift has donated $1million to a relief fund and expressed her own devastation over the damage of the city she calls home, and a number of guitar companies such as Gibson, Heritage and Harmony are also offering their support to any musicians who may have lost equipment in the disaster with new replacement schemes.

David Straw's Top Ten Albums Of 2016

Korn Architects Bury Tomorrow Letlive Every Time I Die

Just from bands that didn't make the final ten, we've seen stunning new British bands break through in the likes of Milk Teeth and Zoax, while the Dillinger Escape Plan signed off with a record that eclipses even their own impeccable standards.

Never before has a list changed shape and order so often, and had so many records conspicuous for their absence. These ones, however, have made the cut...

Download Festival - 2016 Review

This year's Download Festival turned out to be a very wet weekend with constant downpours and thunderstorms throughout the three days, but what would 'Drownload' festival be without a little bit of rain? Thick with mud and soggy from the rain, the crowds all gathered looking for a fantastic time and with phenomenal headliners Rammstein, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden the weekend was never going to disappoint. Aside from the wrestling and the creative Zippo lighters that you could engrave in the Zippo Encore booth, as well as get hold of the limited edition Download Zippo lighter, the music line up for this year's festival was phenomenal - and we can't wait for the next Download festival already.

Download Festival - 2016 Review

Friday
There were multiple highlights throughout the weekend, and as we stocked up on burgers, we headed down to the Lemmy stage to catch one of the more out-there acts of the weekend - Babymetal. Babymetal were mesmerising as they always are, with hit songs Gimme Chocolate and Road To Resistance taking the crowd by storm. A giant circle pit opened as the Japanese J-pop/metal band took to the stage and gave a fantastically choreographed performance as always.

Killswitch Engage managed to slay the stage as they always do, even in the torrential downpour that overtook their set, as the band plunged into hit songs My Curse, Strength Of The Mind and My Last Serenade, there was nothing that they can do to disappoint. A huge crowd turned out to watch the band, even in the mudpit that the Lemmy stage gave way to.

Justin Bieber Vs. Slipknot: Music's Maddest Mash-up Tracks

Nirvana Justin Bieber Korn Slipknot Taylor Swift Adele Britney Spears Nine Inch Nails Carly Rae Jepsen

There are certain things in life that don’t sound like they should ever go together, but then you put them together and...they just do. Peanut butter and jelly, French fries dipped in chocolate milkshakes, Justin Bieber and Slipknot. Huh? Yep, you heard us right! Some musical masters out there are just capable of seeing the potential for a great/totally bonkers mash-up song, when the rest of us could never imagine mixing two totally different artists together.  The result can be oddly hypnotic and scarily addictive.  Take these mad, but surprisingly great, mash-ups for example.

carly rae jepsen mashups Are Carly Rae Jepsen and Nine Inch Nails made for each other?

You’d never imagine that Carly Rae Jepsen, she of super cheesy ‘Call Me Maybe’ fame, could ever be teamed up with industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails and the result not make you want to claw your ears off. Call Me a Hole, the Carley Rae Jepsen vs. Nine Inch Nails mash-up is surprisingly easy listening. The poppy beats of Miss Swift behind Trent Reznor’s recognisable rasp kind of works, perhaps these guys could actually get together for a legitimate collaboration one day!
