The former Parenthood actor will direct and star in the film adaptation of the 1970s traffic cop drama, and he has cast his wife to join him in an unknown role.

Bell and Shepard previously shared the screen in When in Rome, Veronica Mars, and Hit and Run, which he also wrote, directed and starred in.

Ant-Man's Michael Pena is set to portray Shepard's police partner, while Adam Brody, Rosa Salazar and Vincent D'Onofrio, who will play the film's villain, have all been cast in the adaptation.

The original series, which ran from 1977 to 1983, featured Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox as officers Jon Baker and Frank Poncherello.
