The film picks up some years after Veronica has walked away from her past as a teenage private eye in her hometown of Neptune and follows her as she is dragged back into her previous years just as she is about to seal the deal on a job as a high powered attorney in New York, where she is living with boyfriend Piz (Chris Lowell). Veronica's return to Neptune also coincides with the 10 year reunion at Neptune High, but the former amateur sleuth has bigger fish to fry on her return, namely the murder accusations surrounding former flame Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring).

Penned by series creator Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, the movie carries on from where the third and final season of the cult show left off in 2007, when it was cancelled by The CW. It aired for two successful seasons on UPN before that, before being axed and having it's future hanging in limbo for six years. When Thomas told fans that he had already come up with a script and just needed funding to make the movie come to life, it took less than 10 hours for fans to raise the necessary $2 million needed to finance the film on Kickstarter.

"This project has been a labor of love for everyone involved—me, the cast, my producing partners," Thomas said in a statement (via E! News). "We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the Kickstarter backers. This movie wouldn't have happened without them."

The Veronica Mars movie will arrive in selected cinemas on Friday, 14 March.
