Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love is working with police to track down those responsible for posting a fake Nirvana track online last week (ends22Feb15).

A song purported to have been recorded by the iconic band emerged on YouTube.com and reports suggested it had been illegally obtained by hackers who infiltrated Love's personal computer.

The track is now believed to be a fake, and Love, who is part-owner of her late husband's Nirvana music rights, had it removed from the video sharing website.

Her lawyer, Richard Dongell, tells Tmz.com the Hole star is now working with police to track down the culprit behind the stunt.

Nirvana frontman Cobain died in 1994.
