Kylie Minogue Vs. Kylie Jenner: Who Will Win The Kylie Trademark?

Kylie Jenner Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue is the one and only Kylie according to her recent notice of opposition against Kylie Jenner's request to use the mononym as her trademark, and she's not letting up anytime soon. Unfortunately for her though, it's already been done. She filed an application for the trademark because of advertising reasons, and it was released in August 2015 for opposition. It seems that Minogue has finally stepped forward to challenge it.

Even Hollywood sensation Scarlett Johansson dipped her toes in musical waters back in 2008 with her well-praised debut 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'.

While we're half expecting Keira Knightley to release a record any day now after singing on her latest drama 'Begin Again', we look at the film world's biggest female musical successes.

Jenny Lewis promoJenny Lewis: Singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis this week released Voyager, her critically acclaimed third studio album. Although best known for her time fronting indie favourites, Rilo Kiley, music wasn't actually Lewis's first career choice, instead the Vegas native was intially known as an actress. Her early showbiz experience mainly consisted of TV roles, with small parts in the likes of 'Baywatch', 'Brooklyn Bridge' and 'The New Twilight Zone' in the 80s and early 90s as well as film stints on 'Troop Beverly Hills' and 'The Wizard'. Her last major acting venture came with 1995's black and white drama 'Don's Plum' alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire before she formed Rilo Kiley with then-boyfriend Blake Sennett.

The Voice is back, and with an almost entirely new line-up too, as the BBC's returning singing contest hopes to come back with a bang and establish itself as a favourite with the British viewing public. Not Everyone Is Convinced That Kylie Minogue Will Be A Successful Judge On 'The Voice'

Kylie Minogue remains one of the biggest names in pop music today, with a back catalogue that most modern day pop starlets could only dream of for their future output. With this in mind, her appointment as a judge on the upcoming season of the BBC's The Voice looks as though it could be the coup of the TV talent shows, however not everyone is convinced that she'll make a convincing judge on the show.

Kylie Minogue
Kylie has been brought in to add some style to the talent show

Her credentials as a pop artist need no justifying, however her credentials as a presence on television will be seriously tested when she begins her new job sitting alongside Tom Jones, Will.i.am and whoever is brought in to replace the departing Danny O'Donoghue. She is my all means a much more popular entertainer compared to Jessie, and probably more so than some of the men that she is joining, but she enters the BBC series as an inexperienced TV presenter and may struggle to assert any kind of personality and endear herself to the audience. Either that, or she'll be a massive success and be loved by all.

Tonight's TV: Kylie Minogue Stars In Andy Warhol Comedy-Drama 'Hey Diddly Dee'

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue is set to star opposite Peter Serafinowicz in a new comedy about Andy Warhol called Hey Diddly Dee. It’s the directorial debut of Mark Warren, star of Hustle and Mad Dogs, and he spoke to the Telegraph about what pushed him towards wanting to make his directing bow.

“I wanted to do something on acting because it’s what I know” he explained to the paper. “My theory about actors is there’s only two things they’re really concerned about: wi-fi and coffee. And if they’ve got that sorted out, everything’s going to be fine. I would have found it harder doing something heavy, I think I would have felt more at risk,” he added.

The half-hour comedy drama airs on Sky Arts Playhouse and follows the trials and tribulations of a cast and crew performing a musical about the life of the artist Andy Warhol. Matt Horne and David Harewood also star. Continuing, he said that the idea of the program came to him when he was filming Mad Dogs. “I was in the shower and I started to think about Warhol’s 15 minutes of fame, what they would be like.” Continuing, he said “I’d always start to write something and read it the next day and think, oh it’s b******s so it never went any further than that.

Kylie Minogue Returns To Television For The First Time Since Neighbours

Kylie Minogue Andy Warhol Stephen Fry

It's safe to say that, while television provided her with the platform she needed, Kylie Minogue is a popstar first and an actor second. But she'll be needed her skillset from the latter as she returns to TV in a black comedy drama on Sky Arts.

Hey Diddly Dee - about a group of actors putting on a play about Andy Warhol - will also star Homeland star David Harewood, and sees her in a rare television performance since she quit Neighbours to pursue an illustrious career in music. The show is by Stephen Fry and Sandi Toksvig's production company, Sprout, and written and directed by actor Marc Warren. She made a brief comeback in the Doctor Who Christmas special on BBC1 in 2007, and earned rave reviews for her most recent role in Leos Carax film, Holy Motors, last year. "I'd definitely love to do more acting. My heart cries out for it; it's such a deep longing," she told the Guardian in an interview at the time. "For years I've been waiting to get back into it and it just hasn't happened. Or, it has happened and it was so disastrous that I thought: 'Oh, it's just not for me.'"

Sky's head of drama, Anne Mensah, told journalists of the show: "I think there's a drama renaissance going on at the moment ... to add Sky to that mix, anything that Sky does makes the drama community in the UK just richer and more exciting."

The Queen Mistakes Robbie Williams For Pudsey's Trainer

Robbie Williams Alicia Keys Neil Diamond Kylie Minogue Andrea Bocelli

Having met and performed for her on more than one occasion and being one of biggest names in modern British pop music, Robbie Williams has admitted that HRH Queen Elizabeth II still has no clue who he is.

At one point, Robbie told the crowd at last night's triumphant comeback show at London's o2 Academy, during the most recent encounter with the Royal at the Royal Variety Performance this month where Robbie shared the stage with Alicia Keys, Neil Diamond, Kylie Minogue, Andrea Bocelli and Britain's Got Talent winners Ashleigh Butler and her dog Pudsey, the Queen met with the performers after the show and apparently thought that the former Take That star was Pudsey's trainer! He told the crowd: "At the Royal Variety Performance, in the line-up afterwards, we were shaking hands... and she thought I was Pudsey's trainer."

Robbie of course also made an appearance at this years Diamond Jubilee festivities that was organised by Take That head honcho and OBE recipient Gary Barlow, and even then the Queen failed to recognise him in the proceedings after the show admitting, "she thought I was a member of congress."

Children In Need 2012 Kicks Off Tonight, Kylie To Perform The Hits

Kylie Minogue Terry Wogan

Children In Need will take place under the dark shadow of the BBC's recent troubles; namely the controversy surrounding Jimmy Savile, the documentary that never was, and most recently, the false accusation of Lord McAlpine in a separate child abuse case.

But tonight, Friday November 16th, The BBC will launch into its annual philanthropic event in aid of the most vulnerable children both in the U.K and abroad. Although, the proceedings couldn't have come at a worse time, as trust in the BBC is at an all time low, and people will be hesitant in giving money to an organisation that allegedly turned a blind eye to years of systematic child abuse. Besides, giving money once a year won't solve the problems of child poverty, abuse and famine. Got a little serious there! On a lighter note, good old Kylie Minogue will be reprising her classics and belting out the hits for the show, which will be presented by Sir Terry Wogan (as always). The show will also feature the likes of Fearne Cotton, Tess Daly and Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw in a push to match last year's record on-the-night total of #26 million.

It also wouldn't be a real British event if Team GB's Olympic and Paralympic heroes didn' get involved, but thankfully, the likes of Tom Daley, Rebecca Adlington, Louis Smith and Ellie Simmonds will all be dancing in a music video.

We're not sure how much of a One Directioner The Queen is, and we can't see her pulling shapes to the boy band's biggest hits, but they're a polite bunch, and if nothing else, they'll charm the bloomers off the Monarchy. The show is not just varied by name; oldies Rod Stewart and Neil Diamond will join the young pop stars, as well as R&B giant, Alicia Keys, seasoned hitmakers Girls Aloud and Robbie Williams, and not to mention Kylie Minogue. The show will be hosted by David Walliams - which makes it a must-watch show in itself - and will, of course, also feature Britain's Got Talent winners Ashleigh and Pudsey. The show, while being a huge treat for the audience, is set to raise funds for the Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund.

The Queen will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh for the 100th anniversary of the event at the Royal Albert Hall on 19 November, as they look upon the stars who are aiming to maintain the retirement and nursing home in Twickenham, London.

On The Shelves: UK Album Release Round-Up, October 29, 2012: Neil Young, Madness, Kylie Minogue, Calvin Harris, Skyfall OST

Neil Young Madness Kylie Minogue Beatles Calvin Harris Rihanna Florence Welch Dizzee Rascal Ellie Goulding Adele Labrinth Emeli Sande Sam Mendes

Psychedelic Pill is the 35th studio album from Neil Young and was written and recorded in collaboration with his sometime band, Crazy Horse, marking their first album of original material since Greendale in 2003. As with many of Young’s latter-day releases, the quality is less than consistent. Reviews from The Guardian and the Independent suggest that Psychedelic Pill contains “moments of majesty,” (The Independent) as well as some less impressive tracks. It’s unlikely that any of this week’s releases are going to shake Taylor Swift from her throne at the top of the UK album chart but with reassuring reviews in the mainstream press, Psychedelic Pill should prove popular amongst Young’s considerable fanbase.

Also released today is the interestingly-titled Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da, by veteran ska-pop band Madness. It’s the tenth studio album from Madness and contains 14 new tracks, as well as cover art from the ever popular pop-art legend Peter Blake (he designed the cover for The BeatlesSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band). The Guardian gave the album an impressive 3 stars out of 5 but can Madness really recapture the youthful exuberance of their glory days, with this latest album? It seems unlikely that they’ll continue to enjoy the success that they experienced in years gone by.

Common Assault: Sadie Frost Cautioned Over Bust-Up With Boyfriend James

Sadie Frost James Gooding Spandau Ballet Gary Kemp Jude Law Kylie Minogue Sophie Dahl Kate Moss

Sadie Frost has been cautioned for common assault, against her boyfriend James Gooding. The British actress, 47, was reportedly involved in a “bust-up” with Gooding after having dinner with him on Sunday (October 7, 2012), according to The Sun. A spokesperson for the police confirmed “A woman, aged 47, was arrested on suspicion of common assault. The man did not need hospital treatment.” James is 10 years Sadie’s junior and they have been dating since the summer; though it doesn’t seem that all is going to plan if Sadie is resorting to violence against him?

Both Sadie and James have previous form when it comes to high profile relationships. Sadie was once married to the Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp and has a son, Finlay, from her relationship with him. She was also married to the actor Jude Law for six years and has three children with him, Rafferty, Iris and Rudy. James, on the other hand once dated Kylie Minogue, for three years. When they split, he sold his story to The Sun, publicly revealing that he had cheated on her with the model Sophie Dahl.

The actual details of James and Sadie’s spat have not been confirmed, though it is thought that Sadie visited the police station on Sunday, where she received a caution for common assault. She was spotted returning home later on Sunday evening. According to the Daily Mail, Sadie’s pal Kate Moss has already taken a dislike to James and “banned him from attending a holiday with them on their yacht in Mallorca and the south of France.”

Kylie Minogue Stuns In Revealing New Advert

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue has shown off her famous backside once again in a new spoof advertisement for body insurance. The Australian singer's pert bottom has been a talking point for well over a decade now, after she flaunted it in tiny gold hot pants for her Spinning Around music video way back 2000. It would appear that interest in her rear padding hasn't waned after all these years, and so she has unveiled her bottom again in a cheeky clip for the insurers.

The black-and-white video, filmed by British artist Katerina Jebb for her Simulacrum and Hyperbole series, shows Minogue strutting in slow motion across a room wearing a flowing white gown. Staring seductively into the camera, the Australian singing sensation then turns around to reveal that the dress has no back, before climbing a marble staircase as a voiceover asks, "Are your assets fully covered? Protect and cover the things that are most dear to you. Don't wait until tomorrow. Beautiful Body of London."

Minogue is currently stepping back into the limelight with the news that the singer is releasing a series of sessions recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, to mark her 25th year in entertainment. The sessions consist of some of the singer's classic songs, performed with the additional backing of an orchestra.

Kylie Minogue Dazzles In Dolce & Gabbana At Holy Motors Premiere

When Kylie Minogue hit the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie, she cut a dazzling figure in a stunning black sequinned Dolce & Gabbana gown. On Tuesday night (September 17, 2012), the UK premiere for Holy Motors took place at the Curzon Mayfair and the movie’s Aussie star made sure that she really stood out in her shimmering, floor-length frock. She finished the look off with smoky eye-shadow and dangling diamond earrings.

The movie, a French drama, also stars Denis Lavant, Edith Scob and Eva Mendes. After posing for photos on the red carpet, Kylie then “cosied up to director Leos Carax,” according to the Daily Mail. It’s a rare film role for Kylie; even though she started out as an actress – in Australian soaps such as Neighbours - she has spent the last twenty-five years focusing mainly on her music career. Speaking about her decision to take part in the movie, Kylie said “I’m always intrigued and enticed by that which I haven’t done, so… there was every reason to do it and no reason not to do it… it turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.”

Kylie plays the role of Eva Grace (Jean) in the movie. She has her hair cropped short for the role, a far cry from the elegant long locks that she was sporting Tuesday night. There are no Kylie Minogue songs in the movie, though she does have a singing part. Holy Motors receives its general release in the UK on September 28, 2012.

Kylie Minogue Had To Stop Being 'Kylie' For ‘Holy Motors’

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue has revealed she had to "stop being Kylie" for her new film role, reports The Associated Press.

Minogue came to the conclusion that she couldn’t simply be herself, and had to pretend to be someone else, in what most people universally recognise as the art of acting. This epiphany came before her role as airhostess Eva Grace in the new film, Holy Motors. "It's good to be acting again,” the pint sized pop star explained. “It terrifies me in a completely different way and I almost had to unlearn things that I just do naturally, as being 'Kylie'. So, I think I had extra work to get rid of that and to be believable as this character." Good advice to any aspiring thespians out there.

Kylie continued to elaborate on her most recent acting experience: "It was all done live in the scene. I don't know how many takes we did but it was all done in situ,” she told reporters on the red carpet for the film. “And I had to find my path to go from speaking to bursting into song, which seems quite odd. And not performing that like I would one of my own songs. My voice was more prepared than the rest of me - that's what I do. But the first time I heard the song I was welling up. It's such beautiful song, so I think that aided me." Holy Motors opens in cinemas on September 28, and has received positive reviews so far.

Kylie Minogue, Get Outta My Way Single Review

Successful in having been the only female artist to have number one albums across four decades, it's obvious that Kylie Minogue is more than just a household name. An icon for some and a role model for survival for others, Kylie has been dominating the pop music scene, and thus the charts, for a very long time. And from her recent offering, it seems like this engine has not ran out of steam either.
