Kylie Minogue's fiancé Joshua Sasse has said the couple will not tie the knot until same sex marriage is legal in Australia.

Minogue and Sasse announced their engagement earlier this year, but have put wedding plans on hold to fight for Australia’s Say I Do Down Under campaign.

Speaking to Australian show Sunrise, Sasse said he was shocked to learn that same sex marriage is not legal in Australia. "Australia is the last English speaking part of the western world that is yet to catch up. It is just a complete shock," he said.

”After the 25 of June last year, when America passed marriage equality, people have completely gotten behind it. It has not affected society."

"I think it's important to see how other nations have gone through the process. What it has promoted with love and equality. Isn't that enough?”

Speaking about his and Minogue’s own wedding plans, Sasse revealed their big day is on hold until everyone in Australia can wed.

"There are chances of a Melbourne wedding ... (but) we will not get married until this law has passed in Australia," he said.

"I simply can't fathom on any level whether it's moral or religious or anything, that I have the right to get married and to marry the person that I love and that somebody else doesn't because of their sexual orientation," the actor added.

Earlier this week Minogue and Sasse voiced their support for the Say I Do Down Under campaign.

Posting a photo of himself wearing one of the campaign’s t-shirts and posing with Minogue and Dolly Parton he tweeted: ‘This is what it's all about - spreading the word and SAYING I DO DOWN UNDER.’
