Labrinth wasn't nervous about proposing to his girlfriend in front of 35,000 people.

The 'Beneath Your Beautiful' hitmaker popped the question to long-term partner Muz during his performance at the Virgin Media V Festival in Chelmsford, Essex, East England, last weekend and decided to do it so publicly because he wanted it to be ''opulent''.

He said: ''I wasn't scared at all.

''I thought to myself, 'If I'm going to propose I better do it opulently'.

''That's why I thought I'd do it in front of 35,000 people at V Festival.''

And the 26-year-old singer - whose real name is Timothy McKenzie - claimed his surprise proposal triggered one of the ''happiest weeks'' Muz has ever had.

He added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''She's been having one of the happiest weeks of her life.

''She had a surprise birthday party after V Festival and now she's on holiday in Mexico enjoying life in a villa, so I'm sure she's happy.''

Labrinth was inundated with messages of congratulations from fans after his proposal and earlier this week thanked the well-wishers for their support.

He tweeted: ''Thanks for all your amazing tweets and congratulations it means allot to me and @its_Muzzy, happy to have you all enjoying this with us x (sic)''
