'Wilson', starring both Dern and Harrelson, is released in U.S. cinemas on March 24th.
At the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her latest film Wilson, in which she stars opposite Woody Harrelson in a drama about broken families, Laura Dern spoke about the “amazing” time she had on set – not just him, but his wife too!
“I mean, we worship each other! In every single way! I love him so much, I really had the most amazing time,” she said exclusively to us. “As I said to him – there’s only one person on the planet I worship more than you, and it’s your wife Laura [Louie]! She’s the most amazing person, we had basically a summer vacation together!”
In Wilson, an adaptation of Daniel Clowes’ novel, Harrelson plays a neurotic middle-aged who reunites with his estranged wife (Dern), and who meets his now-teenage daughter for the first time in the process (played by Isabella Amara).

Asked what she felt the audience would be thinking when they left the theatre, Dern said: “Being reminded about what the truth looks like, because I think we get misguided into believing people who aren’t always honest and are feeding us lines. The truth is sometimes complicated and doesn’t feel good, or is messy. But, our authenticity is what saves nations and people. So in this misguided comedy, it says something really profound to me.”
At Sundance Film Festival, which takes place every year in January in Park City, Utah, Dern is regular attendee.
“I’ve been coming here since the mid-‘80s, I love the festival and how it honours independent film, and independent film minds – like Craig Johnson’s [Wilson’s director] and Daniel Clowes’ [the author and scriptwriter]. They’re the epitome of what I think independent film stands for – beautiful, complicated and flawed people as protagonists. Working with Woody Harrelson and telling this very damaged love story was the time of our lives.”
Having made its Sundance premiere on January 22nd, Wilson makes its full debut in American cinemas on March 24th.
