Monteith was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on 13 July. A  British Columbia coroner ruled Monteith has died of an overdosed of a lethal mix of heroin and champagne. The Glee star's death was met with an outpouring of grief which placed Michele in the spotlight. This latest Elle interview is one of the few times Michele has spoken about the death of her co-star and boyfriend.

Michele finally broke her silence on Monteith's death in August when she dedicated her award at the Teen Choice Awards to her late boyfriend. In a tearful speech at the event, Michele declared Monteith "was very special to me and also to the world. And we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent; his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart."

The actress, best known for playing Rachel Berry in Glee, explained where she went after news of Monteith's death broke. It seems her friend Kate Hudson, who guest stars in Glee, provided her a safe haven. Michele spoke of the difficulties in dealing with the press, she said, whilst phoning Hudson, "I don't know where I'm going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters]."

Hudson immediately offered her a place to stay and Michele seemed surprised with the way Hudson opened her home to her and appeared incredibly grateful for what she did. In the interview, she said "No one knew I was there. I'll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me."

Yet even with a place to stay Michele had to cope with grief, something she discussed in the interview. She stated, "You have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don't have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort."

She later added in such a situation as handling the death of a loved one, "you can choose to rise," and that Monteith would be supportive of her and want his death to be used "to help people."

Michele is currently working on her untitled solo album. One song on the album, 'You're Mine,' is particularly poignant for the 27-year-old multi-talented star. She stated the song "makes me think so much of Cory. It was ours. When I think of him, I play this."
